It's not easy to communicate with children these days. You do not know when they will get offended. My nephew is 9 years old and his mother always has to be so mindful about telling him anything. One time we were together and talking and the boy said something, we were engrossed in our talk so my friend missed out hearing him, it is such a small thing, but the very next thing what the little boy said shocked me. He told his mother, you are being insensitive. It was just a simple situation but it got so dramatic. The mother then had to pacify him with some sweet talks and control the situation.
When I was that age, I was scared of my parents, not in the wrong way. I can say more than scared it was respect. Would never back answer them even if they would be angry it was ok. But nowadays parents have to be extra careful with children, you cannot get angry at them even if it for their own good. Sometimes I feel certain level of parent's mindfulness is good so that they do not wrongly abuse the child, because some parents can really be abusive towards their children in different ways.
I personally believe that the current trends of child upbringing can impact the child in many ways in adulthood. Their tolerance level is poor, they are not able to handle even little stress due to over protectiveness. They quit so easily in life, whether it is with relationships or with any goals in life. And we can see that with time it is progressing. The number of divorce rates is increasing so much by the time. In my job, when I started we had a very carefree environment, we had fun, spoke openly with each other, and seniors would even give us honest feedback on our performance. But now a days this situation has changed. The HR has to be very mindful while talking to employees. For little things there are law suits filed. It's so much of a governed environment.
Some times I feel that thank god, I was born and brought up in a time where freedom of speech and expression really meant freedom.
