Barça went from a contract they had previously signed with Bartomeu, worth 40 million euros, with a bad bonus that dropped it to 33 million euros, to a new one of 66 million euros. If you signed that contract, Barça would be covered by the 1:1 rule, but the president said no because he wanted Barça's shirt to be the highest-paid in the world. He knew that Real Madrid is earning 90-95 million euros," Masip explained, referring to Laporta's statement that Barça wasn't covered by the 1:1 rule because they didn't want to.
Masip revealed that with Darren Dein's intermediation, that amount doubled. "That contract they offered us for 66 million went up to 122 million per season after that intermediation, including the 58 million advanced at the time of signing. Now it's the highest paid. When someone comes and says, 'Hey, I'll bring you this, but I'll charge this,' well, if they get you that amount, their commission is well paid. Thanks to him, you've doubled your income. This is what people should see. They've been with you since '96 and didn't want to go over 66 million with a bad bonus. The president didn't want that contract. The one who unblocked the situation was Darren Dein because Spotify is on the board of Nike. You went from 66 million to 122 million, so this man's intermediation is good," Masip concluded.
