Hi community!

Barcelona makes official the agreement with the Polish player for two seasons.

Barcelona has closed one of the deals it had on the table: Szczesny. The Catalan club, very satisfied with the goalkeeper's performance, offered him a two-year contract. The goalkeeper accepted the offer weeks ago, but the signature and official announcement, which came this Monday, were still pending.

Barcelona surprisingly opted to sign the 35-year-old Szczesny after Ter Stegen suffered a serious knee injury in late September. The Polish goalkeeper was retired and enjoying his days off in Spain, but, he said, he couldn't refuse the call from the Catalan club and his compatriot Lewandowski. He needed a few months to get into the swing of things, but everything changed in early 2025.

In the Super Cup semifinal in Saudi Arabia, Iñaki Peña arrived a bit late to the coaching briefing and Hansi Flick, who never forgives lateness, left him out of the starting lineup and gave Szczensy the substitute. At that moment, the Pole became Barcelona's starting goalkeeper. He remained in the starting lineup in the Copa del Rey, La Liga, and Champions League.

The goalkeeper, therefore, will remain a Barça player after a first season in which he won three titles and came within a hair's breadth of a Champions League final. He has played a total of 30 matches in all competitions and conceded 36 goals. He has kept a clean sheet in 14 matches. Hansi Flick opted for Szczesny due to his age and experience between the posts.

With Szczesny's approval and the signing of Joan García, Barcelona now has work to do on the goalkeeper's departure. A priori, Iñaki Peña will leave the club, but it remains to be seen what happens with Ter Stegen. So far, the German has expressed his desire to stay.

See You soon!
