The Barça president has sent a strong message to Barcelona fans through 'Barça One'.
Joan Laporta has sent a message to Barcelona fans via 'Barça One,' justifying the elimination against Inter "basically" due to refereeing errors. The Barça president praised the players' performance and stressed the importance of recovering the team's morale.
Laporta began his speech by thanking the Barcelona fans for their support of the team, especially the fans who traveled to Milan. "The more than 4,000 fans who traveled to Milan deserve everything. But also all the culés who have been supporting our players and Hansi throughout the season so that we can achieve the goals we have set for ourselves."
The Barça president also wanted to focus on the team's mental state and the need to stay on track after the Champions League defeat. "We all have to get them back on track to win LaLiga."
Laporta didn't avoid the refereeing controversy and asserted that Marciniak's performance had a defining effect on the second leg. "Yesterday couldn't be: we fought to achieve it and reach the final in Munich, but it couldn't be. Basically, it was because of refereeing decisions that hurt us, but this has to make us stronger and have the right mentality."
Despite the disappointment, he also wanted to send a message of optimism for the future. "We will return to the Champions League and compete to win it. It's a very tough moment because of yesterday's defeat, because we had it within our grasp, and it couldn't be. We fought to achieve it, and I see Barcelona fans proud of this team, of what they're doing. This team has a present and a future, and that gives us strength," he noted.
The president also didn't forget Sunday's Clásico. "I call on Barcelona fans to show that enthusiasm, to cheer on the team so that this Sunday we can win the game against Madrid, which is key to winning La Liga."
Laporta also wanted to offer a gesture to the basketball team during such a challenging season. "In basketball this season, we've had a lot of injuries, a lot of unexpected events. Our coach, Joan Peñarroya, said so. I think we competed very well against Monaco, and it was certainly by one point in a very competitive Euroleague."
