Howdy Ladies of Hive. It has been a good busy week and once again here I come with my entry of LOH #244. Welcome all🙂.
2️⃣ Tell me about a female character in a movie, or a book, that you identify with, or that inspired you. What message did it leave you with?
JOY (2015). Inspired by true stories of daring women. One in Particular JOY. It is an inspiring story of a struggling mother, Joy Mangano, who as a kid always had ideas.
I not only identify with Joy Mangano, but she's my inspiration on my current path.
This is the story of Joy, as told by me her Grandmother. Everybody starts out with some kind of dream of what life would be...
Joy is a divorcee, raising her 2 children, works at a not-so-well-paying job, looking after her 'lazy mom' - who watches soap operas day and night, houses her ex-husband in the basement of her house, and now has to host her father after he breaks-up with his girlfriend. She lives under a lot of pressure. One day when she got cut by glass as she was moping, she came up with an idea of a miracle mop; a mop that would change her destiny. Every dream requires support and her main support are, her family, her friend Peggy, her ex-husband, and the advertising host, Neil.
When watching that movie, I felt myself walking in Joy's shoe, as if she were telling on me. I mean, as a single mother of one with no support from the daddy, I can relate the pressure. Though just like her Mimi, I have my mother as biggest supporter, alongside my siblings. I remember for the longest time, I have lived my life in a loop. Like, back in Covid era, it was all about hustling around other people's farms to fend for my son.
For 5 good years stuck in the loop. Nothing else mattered but looking after my son. Dreams kept on hold because somehow, I didn't even know where to start. Trying to find satisfaction in job after job. Getting overworked for pennies, but what could I do? I had, still have, to take care of my son.
I know it might not feel like it, but sometimes I feel, just like Joy, that my inspiration struck when I decided I had to relocate. I don't have any miracle mop idea, but my dream is to write and thrive in writing. I can say that, alongside my family, my current job that allows me to write even during working hours, my boss who doesn't restrict me as long as I get the office tasks done on time, and Hive engine for giving me a place to host my writing and hone my skills, I will surely build my empire around writing.
I no longer feel stuck in the loop because I still get the time to go after my dream. That wouldn't have happened had I just stayed in the same place I was in 2023; alternating working on people's farms and the tea factory.
Joy Mangano inspires me to keep going, to work on my dream, to be consistent, because eventually, I know I will make it.
Thank you for reading💕.
