Hello, friends of the #Caturday community. Today I return to this community with a new friend and I will tell you the story.

These days, when tourism has practically vanished in my country because of everything that is happening, I find myself temporarily living in the hotel where I work. I am part of the group of workers who must remain here to keep the facilities running and ready for when conditions improve, if that moment comes soon. It is strange to walk through the corridors and gardens of a five-star plus hotel, accustomed to receiving so many visitors, and now find it in silence.

In the middle of that forced calm, I discovered something that I had hardly noticed before: there are several cats living around the hotel. They are really beautiful cats. Apparently they were used to the presence of tourists, who sometimes gave them food or left buffet leftovers for them. Curiously, they almost never approached the workers. It seemed that they were very clear about who had the greatest chance of offering them something special.

But when the tourists left, that source of food disappeared as well. Now the cats can be seen much more often, wandering around the gardens and surrounding areas looking for food wherever possible. They have even begun to allow the workers to get close to them. Many people here care about animals and try to share something with them, even though food is not very abundant for us either.

This small encounter happened during one of those moments. One of the cats came closer and I managed to take a few quick photos with the front camera of my phone. They are not the best photos, but for me they keep something special: the memory of that moment when, in the middle of an almost empty hotel, a cat decided to trust enough to come closer.

Cuando los turistas se fueron… los gatos salieron a buscarnos

Hola, amigos de la comunidad #Caturday, hoy regreso a esta comunidad con un nuevo amigo y les cuento la historia.

Por estos días en que el turismo prácticamente se ha desvanecido en mi país por todo lo que está pasando, me encuentro viviendo temporalmente en el hotel donde trabajo. Formo parte del grupo de trabajadores que debe permanecer aquí para mantener las instalaciones en funcionamiento y listas para cuando las condiciones mejoren, si es que ese momento llega pronto. Es extraño caminar por los pasillos y jardines de un hotel de cinco estrellas plus, acostumbrado a recibir tantos visitantes, y encontrarlo ahora en silencio.

En medio de esa calma forzada descubrí algo que antes casi no notaba: hay varios gatos viviendo en los alrededores del hotel. Son gatos realmente hermosos. Al parecer estaban acostumbrados a la presencia de los turistas, quienes a veces les daban comida o les dejaban sobras del buffet. Curiosamente, casi nunca se acercaban a los trabajadores. Parecía que tenían muy claro quiénes eran las personas con mayores probabilidades de ofrecerles algo especial.

Pero cuando los turistas se fueron, también desapareció esa fuente de alimento. Ahora los gatos se dejan ver mucho más y recorren los jardines y alrededores buscando comida donde sea posible. Incluso han empezado a permitir que los trabajadores nos acerquemos. Muchos aquí sienten cariño por los animales y tratan de compartir algo con ellos, aunque la comida tampoco abunde demasiado para nosotros.

Este pequeño encuentro ocurrió durante uno de esos momentos. Uno de los gatos se acercó y logré tomar unas fotos rápidas con la cámara frontal del móvil. No son las mejores fotos, pero para mí guardan algo especial: el recuerdo de ese instante en que, en medio de un hotel casi vacío, un gato decidió confiar lo suficiente como para acercarse.
