Namaste!
It has been a full month since I planted potatoes for the first time in a pot in my garden and you have been with me on this journey since the beginning. Since I have also planted potatoes for the first time, every part of their growth is new for me too.
Initially, when the plants grew a few inches above the pot, I did not realize it because the plants had the support of the pot as well but now as the height of these plants has increased, it has become difficult for them to stand straight because their stem will probably remain green like tomato plants. In such a situation, the plants are supported by a stick or rope to keep them standing because they can bend and break due to the weight of their own branches and leaves, which may damage the entire plant.
So as I said earlier, this is my first experience with this plant so I don't have any arrangement to support these plants by tying a rope to a frame or something else from above. So first of all, I tried to support these bent plants with the help of a long cane stick which I put deep in the soil of the pot itself. And this attempt was successful to some extent. But as you can see in the photo shown below, many plants got bent on the other side of the stick and I could not put multiple sticks in the pot because these are potato plants and their fruits will be formed under the ground, so putting anything in its soil can damage its roots as well as its fruits.
So I watched some YouTube videos on growing potatoes at home and finally I found a method and according to that, first of all, I tied all the plants in this pot loosely with the help of a strong thread after which all the plants came closer to each other and became somewhat straight but that was not enough because as you can see these plants have grown quite tall now.
So after tying them together I put the stick back in and tied it with the thread as well. This gave the plants extra support and for now, they are a little too close together but it is better than being bent.
The photo shown below is today, two days after doing all this and for now everything looks fine. I think that now the height of these plants will not increase further and now probably soon the time for flowering will come on them, so in the next episode I will show you and myself the potato flowers for the first time. 🌸 😊
I hope you have learned something from my blog and at the same time you have enjoyed reading it. We will meet further in the journey of these seedlings and then their growth. 🙏
I hope you liked my gardening!😊
