The Importance of Respectful Communication in a Team

in Indiaunited11 days ago

Hello to my fellow community members,

Friends, I was away from blogging for the last 3 days because I was busy with my professional work. Recently, at my workplace, we had some issues within the team, and that is why we were busy solving them. But now that things have been sorted out, I am here again to share something with you. Today in this blog, I will share what I recently experienced in my workspace, which I think is worth sharing here as well.

There is always a respectful way of disagreeing with each other when we are working in a team. If you are working on something in a group of five people, it is not necessary that all five of them will agree on the same point. While it is not a bad thing to disagree, it is also important that we keep our point of view respectful and do not cross the line while sharing our opinions.

If you do something like that, it will be harmful to the team itself. It will show how we lack teamwork and how collective decision-making is not something that exists within our team. This is something we should avoid and instead focus on maintaining respect.

In my case, what happened was that one of the team members went on social media and started posting negative things about our team. I was really upset because I wish that person had come and talked to us directly so we could sort things out instead of going on social media and defaming the entire project publicly.

We even tried talking to him, but sadly, I think he had already made his decision to leave the team. I am really disappointed because whether he wanted to work with us or leave was his decision, but I wish it had not ended this way. I would have loved it if he had talked to us respectfully, discussed his concerns, and then decided whether to leave or continue working with us.

So friends, this is the lesson I want to give to all of you. When you are working in a team, when you are working in an organization, you also carry the image and reputation of that organization on your shoulders.

Never do something that harms the organization or the project you are working on. Even if you have something against one of the members, you should talk to them respectfully through a private message, a phone call, or a face-to-face conversation. But going to social media and posting bad things about the team and project is something you should never do.
