Happy day, everyone! Today I want to share with you a very special experience I had recently. Through my photographs, I will take you to an enchanted place that I discovered almost by chance while doing my work routine at the Sunsol Ecoland hotel in the beautiful municipality of Gómez.
It is Fortín España, a place steeped in history that I knew nothing about. It is located on top of a hill, at the end of El Fortín Santa Ana Street, in the municipality of Gómez in the state of Nueva Esparta here on Margarita Island. I never imagined that this day, which began like any other, would end with such an enriching visit full of history.
It all started when, during my usual tour of the Ecoland hotel, I met a friendly local woman named Rosa. I needed to ask for a towel to dry my hands, and she, with a warmth very characteristic of the people of this land, gave me more than that. She spoke with great enthusiasm about Fortín España. The excitement was evident in her eyes as she told me about its historical importance and strategic location. According to Rosa, this small fort was built on high ground to facilitate communication with other forts in the area and thus anticipate possible invasions by Santa Ana. Her story aroused my curiosity.
So, at the end of my workday, I suggested to my husband that we go look for the place Rosa had told us so much about. Although the street had no signs, it was surprisingly easy to find thanks to the kindness of the locals, who gladly showed us the way. It is clear that this fort, although not well known outside the community, is part of the soul of the place.

A través de mis fotografías, los llevaré a conocer un lugar encantado que descubrí casi por casualidad mientras realizaba mi rutina de trabajo en el hotel Sunsol Ecoland, en el bello municipio Gómez.
Se trata del Fortín España, un lugar lleno de historia que yo desconocía, se encuentra en lo alto de una loma, al final de la calle El Fortín Santa Ana, en el municipio Gómez del estado Nueva Esparta acá en Isla Margarita. Nunca imaginé que este día, que comenzó como cualquier otro, terminaría con una visita tan enriquecedora y llena de historia.
Todo comenzó cuando, durante mi recorrido habitual por el hotel Ecoland, conocí a una amable lugareña llamada Rosa, tuve necesidad de pedir una toalla para secar mis manos y ella, con una calidez muy característica de la gente de esta tierra, me dio más que eso, habló con gran entusiasmo del Fortín España. En sus ojos se notaba la emoción mientras me contaba sobre su importancia histórica y su ubicación estratégica. Según Rosa, este pequeño fortín fue construido en un punto elevado para facilitar la comunicación con otros fortines de la zona y así anticipar posibles invasiones por Santa Ana. Su relato despertó en mí una profunda curiosidad.
Así que, al terminar mi jornada laboral, le propuse a mi esposo que fuéramos a buscar ese lugar del que tanto nos había hablado Rosa. Aunque la calle no tenía señalización alguna, fue sorprendentemente fácil encontrarla gracias a la amabilidad de los lugareños, quienes nos indicaron el camino con gusto. Es evidente que este fortín, aunque no muy conocido fuera de la comunidad, es parte del alma del lugar.
The climb up the hill was an experience in itself. As we ascended, the landscape transformed into a series of natural postcards, green mountains, clear skies, and a peculiar breeze.
La subida por la loma fue una experiencia en sí misma. A medida que ascendíamos, el paisaje se transformaba en una serie de postales naturales, montañas verdes, cielo despejado y una peculiar brisa.
The weather was perfect, and everything around us radiated great beauty. I couldn't stop marveling at it all.
El clima estaba perfecto, y todo a nuestro alrededor irradiaba gran belleza, yo no salía del asombro.
When I arrived at the fort, I was amazed. From that height, the panoramic view of the municipality of Gómez was simply extraordinary. The fort, although small, has an imposing presence.
Al llegar al fortín, quedé maravillada. Desde esa altura, la vista panorámica del municipio Gómez era simplemente extraordinaria. El fortín, aunque pequeño, tiene una presencia imponente.
Its thick stone walls and the ancient cannons that still guard it tell stories without the need for words. There were no information plaques or signs, but what Rosa had told me, I could see with my own eyes.

Walking through that space was quite quick in terms of size, but enjoying those views for a long time was the best part. The contrast between the blue sky, the green mountains, and the centuries-old walls created a magical, almost unreal atmosphere.
It was a short but unforgettable walk. I felt connected to the place and the nature of this beautiful corner of Venezuela. I hope my photographs manage to convey some of that emotion and that this little fort awakens in you the same curiosity it awakened in me.
Recorrer ese espacio fue bastante rápido en cuanto a dimensión, Pero disfrutar de esas vistas un largo rato fue lo mejor. El contraste entre el cielo azul, las montañas verdes y los muros centenarios creaba una atmósfera mágica, casi irreal.
Fue un paseo breve pero inolvidable. Me sentí conectada con el lugar, y la naturaleza de este hermoso rincón de Venezuela. Espero que mis fotografías logren transmitirles un poco de esa emoción y que este pequeño fortín despierte en ustedes la misma curiosidad que despertó en mí.
