Movies Review

Marty Supreme

Marty Mauser, a young man with a dream that nobody respects, will do anything to chase greatness. One of the most talked-about films of the year, with several Oscar nominations. Is it worth watching? Definitely yes.

🟢🟢🟢🟢

  • Timothée Chalamet is E-X-C-E-P-T-I-O-N-A-L! One of the best performances of his career, with such a naturalistic style of acting.
  • Josh Safdie is also excellent in the director’s chair.
  • Great pacing which, despite the film’s long runtime, never makes you feel bored and never loses momentum.
  • I like table tennis 🏓, so that’s definitely a positive for me 😅.
  • It satirically criticizes the glorification of scams and cheating.
  • Gwyneth Paltrow, who I generally don’t like, was actually good here.
  • Gritty cinematography.
  • The table tennis scenes are filmed in a completely different and unique way, which I found impressive.

🔴🔴🔴🔴

  • At times when our protagonist is likable, he can suddenly become quite detestable as a character.
  • It flirts with Martin Scorsese-style cinema, or was that just me?
  • I didn’t have a problem with it, but the film’s 150-minute runtime might feel exhausting for some viewers.
  • There are a few unnecessary scenes.
  • The plot has a few holes.

Return to Silent Hill

A man receives a letter from a former love, inviting him back to Silent Hill, a once-bright town now consumed by darkness. Should you watch it? If you’re a hardcore fan of the game, I honestly don’t know. If not, avoid it 😅.

🟢🟢🟢🟢

  • The monsters from the video game might, and I repeat, might, appeal to hardcore gamers 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️.
  • It starts off somewhat... promising, should I say? But after that, chaos.

🔴🔴🔴🔴

  • I wasn’t scared.
  • James, our main character, is never really developed from beginning to end.
  • The CGI is terrible, although maybe that’s also a budget issue.
  • I’m not a fan of the video game, so maybe that plays a role too.
  • Performances 👎.
  • It could, and should, have been fully atmospheric, but... IT ISN’T!
  • Annoyingly repetitive.
  • The screenplay is all over the place, which is the movie’s biggest problem.
  • There is absolutely no basic narrative coherence, not even a little.
  • An exercise in excess in every possible way.
  • Abrupt, consecutive action scenes.
