AI News

It has been a while since we talked about AI. The truth is, a lot has happened in the sector lately, but today there are a few developments that are really worth breaking down.

Nvidia unveiled a new open source model called Ising, and quantum stocks went flying.

At the same time, Anthropic released its new AI model, Opus 4.7, while also alarming half the planet with Mythos, a model that can hack virtually every browser and operating system. And as if that were not enough, Jensen Huang came out and spoke about US China cooperation in AI, while Anthropic is opening massive new offices in London.

Let’s break it all down together.

NVIDIA ISING

Let’s take things one step at a time. Nvidia introduced the Ising models, a new family of open source models designed to make quantum computers practically useful. It did so on World Quantum Day.

“So what exactly do these models do?” you might be wondering. Put simply, AI becomes the brain behind quantum machines. Huang himself said it clearly: “AI is essential to making quantum computing practical. With Ising, AI becomes the operating system of quantum machines.”

And the market reacted immediately. IonQ surged 50% over the week. D-Wave did the same. Quantum Computing and Rigetti both climbed more than 20%. IonQ also announced that it had connected two remote quantum computers, something it described as a “fundamental technological milestone,” while also landing a DARPA contract.

Of course, there is a big catch. The sector remains highly speculative. D-Wave is down 20% since the start of the year, while Rigetti is down 15%. Still, the major players are making serious bets. Microsoft, Alphabet, and Amazon have all announced their own quantum chips, while IBM is targeting its first quantum computer by 2029. And Nvidia? It has put together an 18% winning streak over 10 days, its strongest run since 2023.

ANTHROPIC: A NEW MODEL AND NEW RISKS

This is where things get even more interesting. Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.7, the most powerful AI model currently available to the general public. It is better at coding, follows instructions more accurately, analyzes high resolution images, and costs exactly the same as its predecessor, Opus 4.6.

But that is not all. The company also has another model, Mythos, which it has not released publicly. Why? Because Mythos can identify and exploit security vulnerabilities across every major operating system and every major browser.

For that reason, Anthropic has only made it available to selected companies through a program called Project Glasswing. That move triggered meetings between officials in the Trump administration, tech CEOs, and bankers over the risks posed by AI.

And to understand how big this is from a business perspective, Anthropic is valued at $380 billion, while reportedly receiving offers for a new funding round at $800 billion. Its annual revenue run rate is above $30 billion, and more than 1,000 enterprises are spending over $1 million a year on its products. Those are massive numbers.

On top of that, Anthropic announced that it is expanding in London with new offices for 800 people in the Knowledge Quarter, where Google DeepMind, OpenAI, Meta, Synthesia, and Wayve are already based. Right now, the company has more than 200 people in London.

This move comes just days after OpenAI announced its own permanent offices in London. According to reports, the British government is actively courting Anthropic, especially after the company’s dispute with the Pentagon over the use of AI in military applications.

HUANG VS. ANTHROPIC

And this is where geopolitics enters the picture. Jensen Huang said something in an interview that many people did not expect. He wants dialogue between the United States and China on AI.

“We want the United States to win, but I think dialogue in research is probably the safest thing we can do,” he said. “It is essential that our AI researchers and theirs are talking.”

“So why does this matter?” you might be asking. Because Nvidia is investing $10 billion in Anthropic, while at the same time fundamentally disagreeing with it over China. Anthropic’s CEO believes the export controls are too loose and called the Trump administration’s decision to allow H200 chip exports to China a mistake.

Huang is pushing in the exact opposite direction. And then he dropped a bombshell. He said the computing power needed for Mythos is “fairly commonplace” and “readily available in China.” China has enormous energy capacity, its own chip production, and data centers sitting idle but fully powered. As he put it, if they want to, they can simply combine more chips, even if those chips are built on 7 nanometer technology.

Nvidia also said that this will be its last investment in Anthropic.

ai is here to stay, however, for humanity benefit but also for evil-doers

Like everything, it depends on how we use it.
