When words fail, art speaks - Art Language !

There is a teenage girls I have known to. She is passionate about drawing and painting. Whenever she gets a free time, she starts to draw something. But whenever, I see her work, I find them they are conveying some negative message. Like lonely lady, lady behind the bars, blood stain eyes and many other. It took me bit late to understand that she draw when she used to get upset with something. It is usually important to give a fruitful environment for growth of a kid, but when they does not get a good atmosphere they get into a depression zone and get very difficult to pull back. But this girl is smart as she uses her Passion in venting out her frustration. She found a unique way to convey her message, and that is through art.

If we look at the dictionary meaning of "art" it actually states that :

Art is the expression of ideas and emotions through a physical medium, like painting, sculpture, film, dance, writing, photography, or theatre. If you love the creative process, maybe you'll devote your life to art. - src

In broader sense, art is not limited only to drawing. Art represents various meanings through the use of symbolism, color, composition, subject matter, and context. It helps in allowing the artist to convey complex ideas, emotions, and experiences that can be interpreted differently by viewers depending on their own perspectives and cultural background. Essentially, art acts as a language that can be understood on multiple levels, often with no single definitive meaning. However, there is catch, not everyone are smart enough to understand the message conveyed through different means. It is important to check upon following consideration about an Art.

Subjectivity: Art is inherently subjective, meaning different viewers can interpret the same piece in different ways.

Artist Intent: While the artist's intended meaning is important, it is not always the only valid interpretation.

Critical Analysis: Examining the artwork through the lens of art history, cultural context, and formal elements can help to understand the various layers of meaning.

Art conveys a message by using visual elements like color, line, shape, composition, and texture to evoke emotions, tell stories, and communicate complex ideas without the need for words, allowing the viewer to interpret the meaning based on their own understanding and experiences. Actually any "art" acts as a "silent conversation" that can stimulate thought and discussion. Here are few example of how art conveys a message:

  • A painting with dark, muted colors and sharp lines might convey a sense of anxiety or tension.

  • A vibrant, colorful portrait with soft lines could represent joy and celebration.

  • A sculpture depicting a broken figure could symbolize loss or fragility.

Artists often use recognizable symbols to convey specific meanings, like a dove representing peace, a skull representing mortality, or a rose signifying love. It has a seperate language that can be understoon only when you seek some learning.

Today morning I was busy with some works. I was playing my Playlist on mobile. There was an old song which I listened multiple times, but today I listeningnir caught my attention. There were the lyrics that were so common in everyday life. It was simple conversation that was put into music, making it more meaningful and expressive.

This is first time, I listened to the music so carefully. Mere listening to music and words arr meaningless unless and untill, you try to grasp the message that the artist wanted to convey. Key points about how art conveys a message:

  • Artists often use color palettes, brushstrokes, and subject matter to evoke specific emotions in the viewer, like happiness, sadness, anger, or peace.

  • Objects, figures, and imagery within a piece can serve as symbols that carry deeper meanings, allowing the artist to convey abstract concepts.

  • The arrangement of elements within a piece, including the use of space and perspective, can guide the viewer's focus and influence the interpretation of the message.

All the context, related to art has alwsys been useful. Understanding the artist's background, historical period, and cultural context can enhance the interpretation of the artwork's message. To engage with art and understand its message, you can: Ask questions, Reflect on the meaning, Allow it to stir your thoughts and emotions, Share your interpretations, and Listen to others' views.

Peace!!
