My Dog Has a Job Now

When Walking the Dog Pays You Back

I didn’t set out to give my foster dog a job.

Honestly, I was just doing what every dog owner does—walking him twice a day, making sure he’s fed, watered, and getting enough attention to stay balanced. Nothing special. Just part of the routine.

But if you’ve ever worked with a dog that needs a little extra structure, you know those “simple” walks aren’t always simple.

Some days it’s progress.

Some days it’s pulling, distractions, and resetting expectations every five steps.

And still… you show up and do it again later that day.

Same Routine, Different Perspective

At some point, it hit me:

I’m already putting in this time every single day.
Not just walking—but training, reinforcing behavior, building trust.

That’s when I heard about Vetted Pet Health.

It tracks the things I’m already doing—walks, feeding, playtime—and gives me Care Coins for staying consistent. Those points can be turned into real value for pet care like food, grooming, or vet expenses.

Nothing crazy. It’s not replacing income.

But that’s not really the point.

The Shift

What changed wasn’t the routine—it was how I saw it.

Instead of:

“I have to go walk the dog again…” - the old me

It became:

“This actually counts for something.” - My Dog Has a Job Now

There’s something about that shift that makes you show up a little differently.

You stay more consistent

You pay more attention

You follow through even on the days you don’t feel like it

And ironically… that’s exactly what the dog needed all along.

So… Yeah. He Has a Job Now.

He doesn’t know it, obviously.

To him, it’s just:

  • Going on walks

  • Getting rewarded

  • Spending time together

But in a weird way, he’s contributing now too.

The same routine that’s helping him improve is also helping cover part of his care.

Food, future vet visits, things like that.

And that feels… fair.

Full Circle

I started out just trying to help a dog get better training for his forever home.

Now:

  1. He’s improving

  2. I’m more consistent

  3. And the process is giving something back

Same walks. Same effort.

Just a smarter system behind it.

Final Thought

If you’ve got a dog, you’re already doing the work.

You’re already walking them.

Already feeding them.

Already putting in the time.

Might as well let it count for something.
