My mouth opened wide, and I couldn’t close it back when I heard the price of a live chicken…
Christmas is in four days, and I have been thinking about how to celebrate the season, perhaps with a few neighbours around me.
Honestly, my Muslim neighbours are already telling me ahead of time that they would expect Christmas food and chicken from me. One of them even said that if I give him something on Christmas, he would do the same during their own festival next year. Hahaha 😂
I remember when we were very young and during Christmas, we would receive lots of food from neighbours, and we would give it to them, too. It was always an exchange of gifts and those moments were always seasoned with love and kindness.
Well, the truth was, I never thought that one day, I would be in the position to do the same, and yes, as I grew up, I understood that it’s part of sharing the love of Jesus to even those who do not know what love is.
Since last week, I have been trying to estimate the amount I would be spending on Christmas as I have decided to prepare a meal that would be enough for more than 10 people and definitely drinks to complement the meal.
As I was thinking about how to get a live chicken because I sensed that it would be better than buying frozen chicken that might not be enough. My mind went to a member of my church and I made up my mind to see her after the service today.
Unfortunately, I didn’t meet her as I was told she travelled with her husband, but I met a boy who may have been like a family to them; he’s living with them, though, and so I reached out to him and asked if they have live chickens available and how much they cost.
“Live Turkey is #20,000 and live chicken is within 12,000-15000.”
“Haa,” was what dropped out of my mouth because I was shocked that they cost that much. Is it not something that may finish that same day? I could still remember the last time I bought live chicken, which was two years ago, and it was around #7,000.
I know this would definitely be expensive in other places, i.e., Lagos. I don’t even want to go there. @nkemakonam89, have you bought your live chicken, and how much did you pay for it? I know you are a big Madam 🤣 How about @funshee? Don’t tell me you are killing a cow for Christmas because I might just come and spend the holiday at your place… 🤣
Anyway, I don’t have a choice because I really do want to celebrate this Christmas and share love with people around me. I already listed out names of people I would be sharing love with here, and they should not exceed my budget. Well, I will secretly give to these ones without others knowing, else, I might be feeding the whole nation on that day 😆
