I am always grateful for the welcome in this community, which I always imagine filled with smiles and, above all, good luck. Speaking of luck, I was thinking that since I was little, I’ve had certain beliefs that many might call superstitions, but for me, they are small unwritten laws I respect without question.
I don’t know if it’s due to family tradition, personal experiences, or simply that human need to find patterns in chaos, but there are things I avoid doing… just in case. There are signs I don’t dare ignore.
One of my unbreakable rules is never walking under a ladder or transit barriers, and I’ve instilled this in my daughter as well. It’s not just about physical danger, it’s because I feel that if I do, something important in my life will fall apart. It’s probably silly, but I’d rather take the long way around and avoid the possibility of my plans shattering like a mirror… and speaking of mirrors, I’ve broken so many and am still waiting for all those years of bad luck.
Another sign I take seriously is rain with sunshine. Since childhood, I was warned that if it rains while the sun is out, I shouldn’t step out from under a roof… Why? I honestly don’t know where this omen comes from, but something in me resists challenging it. When I see those raindrops glistening under the sun, I stay still, watching, waiting for that dangerous moment to pass.
And what about stirring food with a knife? I used to do it without thinking until someone warned me it would bring arguments into the house. Since then, even if it’s less convenient, I grab a spoon. I don’t know if it really makes a difference, but why take the risk?
Now, my friends, while I respect my own superstitions, there are others I’ve never understood, like black cats. To me, they’re simply stunning creatures, and if one crosses my path, the only thing I do is admire it and, if it allows me, pet it.
I also don’t get the logic behind not sweeping during Holy Week to avoid ants or that oft-repeated omen about broken mirrors (which I already mentioned).
The truth is, maybe all of this stems from that ancient desire to control the uncontrollable, to find meaning in randomness, or simply because we like to think our actions, no matter how small, can influence our fate. In the end, what matters isn’t whether they’re true or not, but that for those of us who follow them, they carry real weight in our decisions… and we follow them, no matter what.

De supersticiones y señales
Siempre agradezco la acogida en esta comunidad, que siempre imagino llena de sonrisas y, sobre todo, mucha suerte. Hablando de suerte, estaba pensando que desde pequeña he tenido ciertas creencias que muchos podrían tachar de supersticiones, pero para mí son pequeñas leyes no escritas que respeto sin cuestionar.
No sé si es por tradición familiar, experiencias personales o simplemente esa necesidad humana de encontrar patrones en el caos, pero hay cosas que evito hacer… por si acaso. Hay señales que no me arriesgo a ignorar.
Una de mis reglas inquebrantables es nunca pasar debajo de una escalera o de vallas de tránsito, y así se lo he inculcado a mi hija. No es solo por el peligro físico, sino porque siento que si lo hago, algo importante en mi vida se desbaratará. Probablemente sea una tontería, pero prefiero dar la vuelta y evitar la posibilidad de que mis planes se rompan como un espejo… y ya que hablo de espejos, he roto muchísimos y aún espero mis tantos años de mala suerte.
Otra señal que tomo muy en serio es la lluvia con sol. Desde pequeña me advirtieron que si llueve y hace sol al mismo tiempo, no debía salir de bajo techo… ¿Por qué? La verdad es que no sé de dónde viene este presagio, pero algo en mí se resiste a desafiarlo. Cuando veo esas gotas brillando bajo el sol, me quedo quieta, observando, esperando a que pase ese momento tan peligroso.
¿Y qué me dicen de revolver la comida con un cuchillo? Antes lo hacía sin pensar, hasta que alguien me advirtió que eso atraía discusiones en casa. Desde entonces, aunque sea más incómodo, busco una cuchara. No sé si realmente influye, pero ¿para qué arriesgarse?
Ahora, amigas mías, aunque respeto mis propias supersticiones, hay otras a las que nunca les he encontrado sentido, como la de los gatos negros. Para mí son simplemente animales hermosísimos, y si uno se me cruza, lo único que hago es admirarlo y, si se deja, acariciarlo.
Tampoco le veo lógica a eso de no barrer en Semana Santa para evitar hormigas o a ese tan repetido presagio de los espejos rotos (que ya mencioné).
La verdad es que quizá todo esto surja de ese deseo ancestral de controlar lo incontrolable, de encontrar significado en lo aleatorio, o simplemente porque nos gusta pensar que nuestras acciones, por pequeñas que sean, pueden influir en nuestro destino. Al final, lo importante no es si son ciertas o no, sino que, para quienes las seguimos, tienen un peso real en nuestras decisiones… y las seguimos, sí o sí.
