Mount Fuji is a famous Mountain, like when we think of the famous Mountains of the world, then there are few that immediately comes to our mind like the Everest, Kilimanjaro, Matterhorn, Fuji and some others. For Japan Mount Fuji is not just a mountain but it's a symbol of Japan. I was very eager to see this sight. The day that I had planned to travel, the weather forecast was not showing very good visibility. The weather in the region is very unpredictable and be it whatever season, Fuji visibility can go down anytime and get covered in clouds. So it's also some luck factor to see Fuji.
I was not in a position to shuffle the days so I kept the plan as is and just prayed that I would get a clear day to see Fuji. To my luck, even though till the evening before the weather was not showing great but the day we visited it was a clear day and all through the day in that region we could keep seeing Mount Fuji from all different sights. I can say luck played in my favor.
Fuji is the highest peak in Japan and ranks 35th globally but when it comes to island peaks it is on number 7. If you see Fuji from a distance it is very different then other peaks, it has a perfect shape and looks flat on the top, like there is a table land on the top. I am sure climbing it must not be so easy considering the massive weather unpredictability.
Fuji 5th station is considered to be the best place to view Fuji from, but ideally it is not, because it so over-crowded. I personally felt that watching it from Lake Kawaguchiko and other points in the region is much better. Also there is no need to go to one particular point to view the Mountain. It's huge and you can keep watching it in region from many places.
We had hired a car for this day trip, because I wanted to cover quite a few places and travelling by train and bus would have not made that possible. Also my itinerary was not the standard route that normally the tour operators follow, so it had to be a customized private tour. On this day we planned to see Fuji, some of the caves in the region, the safari park and a few other places. We started early at 7 and were there in the Fuji area by 9. Caught up on some sleep on the way as our previous day was also a very hectic one.
