Last evening me and hubby were invited for a Iftar at one of his office colleagues residence. An Iftar is a meal that is had during the 30 holy days of Ramadan. The fast is observed from sunrise to sunset, when they have to break the fast the first thing they have is the Dates with which they break their fast, then they do a prayer and later they have their meals, this meal is called the Iftar. On these days they invite people from other communities also to join them in the Iftar meal. It feels good to be invited because it shows how they value relationships with their friends and known people.
This office colleague has been inviting us every year at her residence for the Iftar. Last year we could not visit because we were in India. This time we decided to go. I love her house, it's huge. It's an independent home with big garden area and a lot of outdoor space. Last time I had visited the meal service was organized indoors as it was during summer time, but this year the weather is still good so they had organized it in the garden and it was a nice ambiance.
When we reached there, we met her and the family. They are a big family, parents, 5 siblings, their husbands, children, all of them live together under one roof. It took us a while meeting every member of the family, it was nice, they were all very friendly and warm and made us feel very comfortable. After all the greetings, we were offered some appetizers to start with, which included dates, figs, cut fruits and some fritters.
Hubby had his office colleagues so he got busy chit chatting with them and I was moving around the place taking some pictures. The ladies did invite me to join them, I sat with them for a while, but then after that I wanted to move around. Anyways I am a little introvert and I enjoy being in my own space.
That's the out-house where the family has all their gatherings, it's a very big space, even my home is smaller to this :-)
That's the outdoor gazebo for their parties.
This is their prayer room, and place to do all other religious activities.
After some time it was time for meals, which is the Iftar. There was lot of food on the table, many types of meat, salads, rice, dal and deserts. It was a big feast. Everything is cooked at home and they do this almost every day during this month of Ramadan. I cannot even imagine, I host a party at my place for one evening and then I need another 2 days to recover from the tiredness.
I must confess, I over ate...hehe, the food was tasty I could not stop myself. I also had the deserts, which I normally avoid at night. In desert was my favorite caramel pudding and Kunafa, which is a turkish sweet. I enjoy both of these, so I did not stop myself. Then next day was my fasting day combined with a rigorous workout to get all those extra calories burned out.
It was a wonderful evening, I got to socialize and also spend a good time in this amazing surroundings.
Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸
