Some times it feels like crazy hearing about all the different types of social media platforms that exist. I some times fail to understand how people keep up with so many accounts. I have 2 accounts and I get bored of them also at times. The main reason I maintain these accounts is to promote my Airbnb business, promoting my business becomes easy with it. I have a Twitter account but for many years now I have not used. Even my Linkedin account, once in a year I happen to check. And there is something called X platform, which I still do not have clue about.
It's almost the same set of people on all these platforms and we keep sharing our views and content on all these platforms, so the question is do we need so many platforms to share our thoughts and content. I feel that the more you put up your personal information on all of these platforms, the more you are exposing yourself to unknown people. For me, I do share my business content on Facebook and Insta both, just with a thought that if some people miss watching it on one then they may have a look on other, because probably a lot of people may not be accessing both their accounts regularly. Yes, I do share some of my travel experiences also and some moments with family and friends.
With so many platforms, I guess at the end of the day what matters is the convenience to use them. For e.g. I find Insta more convenient to use then FB. I find it easy to promote my business on Insta, on FB there are many blocks which many times do not even show up my content on my followers feed. Insta also have these blocks but still they are little better then FB, and this is my personal experience. Some time back, I was promoting my business on FB by running ads there and I got some useless response. My ad was not reaching out to the correct set of people. I was getting more of spams. In response to my ad I was getting more ads, other collaborators were reaching out to me to promote their own business, and I really felt that I wasted my money on running those ads, so after that I completely stopped. On Insta, I did not get a very good response, but at least I got some decent response with queries. It's complicated to understand how these platforms operate.
For communication purpose, I use Whatsapp, I find it easy to use. Besides this I do not use any other platforms, though here I will have to think about alternative, because in my country Whatsapp calling is not allowed and I need to use the VPN every time, which sometimes does not support and it becomes difficult for me to connect with my family back home. I am still thinking which one to use for calling.
These platforms do offer some convenience but then at the same time with many choices, there is more confusion.
