That special store from my childhood, in the town where I grew up, we called it "La Bodega," Don Pablo's store, although that was the name of the man who owned it. I don't even remember his real name; we all just called it Don Pablo's store.
It was special because my mother would take cakes, empanadas, and cupcakes there for him to sell. He would tell her he liked her sending him these sweets because that's how he sold his sodas. A cake, a soda for those who were used to having soda there.
I remember it well because I was the one in charge of taking these desserts to the store. What times those were! The man passed away a long time ago, and that space is still there, empty. It's a large space, the store and the house itself, on a corner. He was a very kind man who sold produce from his yard, like the delicious, sweet, and large mammee apples.
That was my favorite shop.
