When the protagonist, Gon Freecss, manages to catch the King of the Pond—a massive fish—there was no longer any excuse not to pursue his dream of becoming a professional hunter. Thus begins the adventure in this anime series, which turned out to be quite a surprise for me, as I started watching it without knowing anything about its content or having done any prior research.
Although he seemed like a boy on a typical adolescent adventure, the series shows us not only the protagonist’s personal discovery but also a whole tapestry that reflects that transition from childhood to adulthood and how friendship is a vital element for growth and social adaptation.
Along the way, he meets those who become his unconditional friends, especially after a lonely childhood without parents or peers, which is why their value grew for Gon, who finds in them further motivation to train in his father’s trade—his father being considered the best hunter in the world.
An interactive board game becomes Gon’s first clue to finding his father and a great opportunity to begin discovering his own physical and emotional abilities, alongside the friends he made during the hunter exam, while also forming new friendships that will serve as a support system throughout the story.
Faced with the imminent danger of what would be their first mission as professional hunters—a storyline that takes up most of the anime (as is typical of most such series)—we see Gon and his best friend Killua face off, both together and separately, against various villains created by ants that managed to fuse with the humans they devoured, thereby generating new ants with even greater powers.
Driven by love and loyalty to friendship, Gon does what no one expected, but which marked a turning point in the story, bringing the drama with the hybrid beings to a close and giving way to a more personal one that tested everything he had cultivated throughout the plot, shifting the story from the typical gang fight to a more internal struggle, rich in values, and demonstrating that when we are good, life eventually returns all that goodness to us.
A story full of magic, innocence, learning, action, and plenty of “tatakae” (fight scenes) that you’re sure to enjoy from start to finish.

Cuando el protagonista Gon Freecss logra la hazaña de pescar al rey del estaque, un pez de gran tamaño, ya no había excusa para no ir por su sueño de ser cazador profesional. Así empieza la hazaña en esta serie de animé que resultó ser toda una sorpresa para mi, pues empecé a verla sin conocer sobre su contenido, ni haber hecho investigación previa.
Aunque parecía ser un niño en una aventura propia de la pubertad, la serie nos muestra un descubrimiento no solo a nivel personal del protagonista, sino también todo un entramado que refleja ese paso de la niñez a la adultez y como la amistad es un elemento vital para el crecimiento y la adaptación social.
En el camino conoce a quienes pasaron a ser amigos incondicionales, sobre todo luego de una niñez en solitario, sin padres ni amigos contemporáneos, por lo que su valor aumentó para Gon, quien encuentra en ellos, una motivación más para formarse en el oficio de su padre, quien es considerado el mejor cazador del mundo.
Un juego de mesa interactivo, resulta para Gon la primera pista para conseguir a su padre, y la gran oportunidad para empezar a conocer sus propias facultades físicas y emocionales, junto con los amigos que hizo durante el examen para ser cazador, haciendo también nuevas amistades que le servirán de apoyo en el transcurso de la trama.
Ante el inminente peligro de lo que fuera su primera misión como cazador profesional, que ocupa la mayor parte del anime (incluso como la mayoría de ellos) vemos como Gon y su mejor amigo Killua, se enfrentan en conjunto y por separado a diversos villanos producidos por hormigas que lograron fusionarse con humanos que devoraban para generar nuevas hormigas con poderes mayores.

Movido por el amor y la fidelidad a la amistad, Gon hace lo que nadie pensaba, pero que selló un antes y un después en la historia, haciendo que el drama con los seres híbridos termine para dar paso a uno más personal, que puso a prueba todo lo que había cultivado durante la trama, haciendo que la historia cambie de la típica pelea entre bandas a una más interna, cargada de valores y demostrando que cuando somos buenos, la vida nos devuelve toda esa bondad en algún momento.
Una historia cargada de magia, inocencia, aprendizaje, acción y mucho "tatakae" (escenas de pelea) que de seguro disfrutarán de principio a fin.
