Hola, mis amigos de Hive. Feliz inicio de semana para todos.
Hoy quiero mostrarles la fachada de un sitio que no pasa inadvertido. Si crees que en La Habana solo hay playa y malecón, déjenme decirles que se están perdiendo una parada obligada. Hablo de la Iglesia de Jesús de Miramar, un remanso de paz y belleza en la Quinta Avenida que literalmente te deja con la boca abierta. Como mismo me sucedió a mí. Para mí, es la glesia más brutal de Cuba. Y no es para menos. Esto no es cualquier capilla de barrio, es la segunda iglesia más grande de Cuba (sí, después de la Catedral de Santiago). La empezaron a construir en 1948 y la abrieron en el 53, pero lo loco es que parece sacada de una película europea con esa arquitectura neorrománica-bizantina que tiene.
En una ocasión logré entrar y posee detalle que te roba el corazón, los murales. Cuando entres, olvídate del aburrimiento. Lo primero que vas a ver son 14 murales gigantes que cuentan toda la historia de la pasión de Cristo. Son enormes, con muchas figuras pintadas por un español llamado César Hombradós. Pero lo más curioso es el "chisme" que gira al rededor: se dice que el artista usó a los que donaron plata para la obra como modelos para los personajes bíblicos. O sea, ¿imagínate a gente común y corriente salir en un mural así? Eso es un crédito inimaginable.
No sé si en estos momentos la iglesia esta funcionando porque en Cuba cualquier cosa puede suceder, pero en su interior se encuentra el órgano más grande de Cuba. Si te gusta la música, ponle atención al órgano, una mole de madera imponente de solo verla. Su cúpula es la segunda más grande del país, solo superada por la del Capitolio .
En los jardines hay una gruta de la Virgen de Lourdes que es una réplica de la de Francia, y la gente va ahí a dejar flores y a pedir deseos. El nombre real es Iglesia de Cristo Rey, pero todo el mundo le dice Jesús de Miramar. Esta iglesia luciría un mayor esplendor si fuera restaurada tal y como lo hicieron con el Capitolio. Está ubicada la Quinta Avenida, esquina a 82, en el municipio Playa. Lo mejor de todo es que la entrada es gratis. Así que ya sabes, si andas por Miramar, no importa si eres creyente o no, la belleza del lugar te atrapa.

Today I want to show you the façade of a place that doesn't go unnoticed. If you think Havana is only about the beach and the Malecón, let me tell you, you're missing a must-see stop. I'm talking about the Iglesia de Jesús de Miramar, a haven of peace and beauty on Quinta Avenida that literally leaves you speechless. Just like it did to me. For me, it's the most stunning church in Cuba. And for good reason. This isn't just some neighborhood chapel; it's the second largest church in Cuba (yes, after the Cathedral in Santiago). Construction started in 1948 and it opened in '53, but the crazy thing is it looks like it was lifted straight out of a European movie with its Neo-Romanesque-Byzantine architecture.
I managed to get inside once, and it has a detail that steals your heart: the murals. When you go in, forget about being bored. The first thing you'll see are 14 giant murals that tell the whole story of the Passion of Christ. They're enormous, with many figures painted by a Spaniard named César Hombradós. But the most curious bit of gossip surrounding it is that the artist supposedly used the people who donated money for the project as models for the biblical characters. So, can you imagine everyday, ordinary people appearing in a mural like that? That's unimaginable street cred.
I don't know if the church is currently open because in Cuba, anything can happen, but inside you'll find the largest organ in Cuba. If you like music, pay attention to the organ; it's an imposing wooden behemoth just from the sight of it. Its dome is the second largest in the country, only surpassed by that of the Capitol building.
In the gardens, there's a grotto of the Virgin of Lourdes that's a replica of the one in France, and people go there to leave flowers and make wishes. Its real name is the Iglesia de Cristo Rey, but everyone calls it Jesús de Miramar. This church would shine even more if it were restored, just like they did with the Capitol. It's located on Quinta Avenida, at the corner of 82nd Street, in the Playa municipality. The best part is that entry is free. So now you know, if you're in Miramar, whether you're a believer or not, the beauty of this place will captivate you.
