The whole truth about Lewandowski's 'renewal'.

Hi community!

The Pole signed, for all intents and purposes, until June 2026 unless...

Much has been written about the conditions included in Robert Lewandowski's contract for him to play a fourth season in a Barça shirt. According to some reports, the player would be a certain number of games away from automatically renewing for a fourth year. However, as we already told you on December 2, 2023, this is not the case because, in fact, the contract he signed on July 19, 2022 already contemplated a contractual duration of four years, until June 30, 2026.

Therefore, as of today, Robert does not need to play any more matches for this theoretical renewal. In fact, it is quite the opposite: if he reaches a certain percentage of matches between now and the end of the season, it will be Barça who can unilaterally terminate his contract. The text signed by both parties says exactly the following: "The two parties agree that, in the event that the participation ("matches played") of the PLAYER during the third season (2024/25) is less than 55% of official matches, FC BARCELONA will have the right to terminate this employment contract early." The text also specifies that a "match played" will be any match in which he is a starter or in which, without being a starter, he reaches 45 minutes.

That is to say, the player will not be renewed if he reaches the stipulated figure, but Barça will not be able to terminate the fourth year signed, in which, by the way, Lewandowski will receive 26 million euros gross, the same as last season. During the first year he had a stipulated fixed 20 million, while this year is the year in which he earns the most: 32 million euros gross.

The Polish striker has already played 31 of the 34 games played by the team this season, but Barça could end up playing a total of 51, which means that, for the moment, he has 50.8% of official matches, the only ones that are counted. To exceed 55% and leave the club without any option of terminating his contract, he would have to play three more games. So things stand, Lewandowski can be much more relaxed than he was already because the striker is a regular for Flick and, in that sense, he had more than signed the fourth year of his contract.

See You soon!
