I was sitting at the dance studio yesterday and about half way through, I got this text from my @khaldeesi as she was already at the house.
A phone call followed shortly after and I ended up pulling @lunamoon from the rest of her classes to console all the broken hearts. I will always have a new spot for the song from Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars now, while she sobbed and held my hand and we heard, 'Die With a Smile'.
Earlier yesterday, while I was letting all of them out to go poddy and play in the sun, there was a bit of an accident. The two big dogs decided to start playing wrestle tag. They get to moving pretty quickly.
Imagine a 140 pound Great Dane tripping over an 80 pound shaggy red nose pit bull and crashing into a 15 pound, elderly, frail terrier. I am under the impression she either walked away with a broken rib that punctured her lung(s), a collapsed lung, or a combination of the two.
After I had let them in, she was breathing a little funny, like she had snot in her throat, but it cleared up fairly quickly and I prattled on thinking she'd just got the wind knocked out of her. I was wrong.
She was decent dog. I knew her all seventeen years of her life. There were several times, I'm sure, she was trying to be my dog. She was very protective of me and, her family 😭.
That was the day she made friends with Dalilah. Great picture and the last one I have before started going downhill and looking sickly. You ever wonder if dogs remember their early years? Like, how far back can you remember?
I remember heading to my friends house and picking her out of 9 other puppies. I remember fighting with her sister (because I ended up coming home with two of them) and I remember her fighting every dog we got and stylishly losing most of the battles. Think she had a little dog complex 😁.
A little dog with a strong head and even stronger will to live on. And she will, in our hearts and memories and on various flash drives. We also commemorated her the same as we did Maddux with the stepping stone and picture.
I figured she hadn't much time left and insisted we get it done while she was still here and could get her footprints cemented into the memorial.
As a pet owner (if you are), as much as we don't want to think about it, we know that one day, we will outlive most of them. Especially dogs and cats. Zoey though, she stuck around a long time and I had already made my peace with her eminent departure but, once I got home yesterday?
Seeing all the girls crying?
Ya, I buckled and gave in to the mass amount of dust in my eyes. Shut up @snook, it was a lot of dust. It carried on into the digging of a plot. The dust. We laid her in the ground next to Wenzday and each of them threw a handful of dirt on her. Ashes to ashes, returning from whence she came.
And with that, I would like to remind each and every one of you to just go hug your furry friend and also to REMEMBER TO BE YOU! I always am, even as a gravedigger. #mudonmyboots
