“Where’s Grandpa?”
That was the first thing Ade, my 3.5-year-old son, asked when we arrived at my wife’s hometown.
“Grandpa’s still in the rice field.”
“He’s chasing away the birds that are eating the rice in Grandpa’s field,” my mother-in-law replied.
Last weekend, our whole family decided to go back to my wife’s hometown. It had been a long time since we’d visited her parents there.
Not long after that conversation, Ade immediately grabbed my hand, asking me to take him to the rice field to find his grandpa.
When we arrived at the rice field, my father-in-law was surprised to see us there so early in the morning.
Thank God, the trip went very smoothly that day. It took just a little over an hour by car to get there. Usually, it can take up to 1.5 hours or even longer when traffic is heavy.
I took the photo above when Ade and his grandpa were walking on the way home from the rice field. Along the way, the two of them were happily chatting and joking around.
