I think at this point almost every crocheter knows the lily flower tote. My client reached out to me saying she wanted a tote bag but with a twist. She didn't want the regular gradient mix everyone dies she wanted hers to have this fire type of look and trust me I accepted the challenge ASAP!
I knew it was not going to be my regular type of project. I knew I was about to put my entire being into this. It was a good thing that at that point it was the only Design I was working on. So I had the time to pour into it.
Crochet has the ability to just make colors match even if they don't belong together. But in this case they definitely belong together. Yellow, Orange, and red and I love the progression and how it all came together.
The color arrangement was picked by the client and boy was she so right about it “I want it to look like fire” that's what she said and I delivered just that.
One thing nobody says about this bag is the timeeeeeeee. Oh my days, timeeeeeeee. And this was my first time trying out this pattern so there was absolutely nothing to brace me for this. Each petal took more than an hour to make and I needed 12 which was 6 for each side. At some point I'm sure I saw stars
Just when I finished the 12 and thought “oh the hardest part is gone” I definitely spoke too soon. I had to join the petals together one by one and I made a strap that went round the both sides of the petals so while it looked like a start shaped bag on the outside the inside was round to avoid my clients items from sneaking into the holes and I think that helped a ton.
After joining was the zip. Hand sewn by yours truly. The time I spent at my moms dress shop really came in handy at that moment with my clean stitches. It took time, my fingers were hurting but it looked too good to just give up when I finished that y'all know the drill. It was to hide all the yarns that were sticking out. Once that was done it felt like cold water was poured on me.
This feeling did not come because the work was finished. Nope. It came because I didn't flop as in mess it up. I was so happy, like very happy that it came pretty. It had me sharing images with my friends and the support was amazing.
My client loved it so much that she made an edited review video and sent it my way. It had me all giddy but waiting to get the clients reaction and then getting a great review made my day instantly.
This project reminded me of how much I loved making designs with hook, yarns and my fluffy little fingers.
