What is one book, YouTube video, movie, or life lesson on self-development that has truly impacted you? It could be about skills, money, purpose, relationships, health, or personal growth. Share what it taught you and why you would recommend it to others.Hello #ladiesofhive, happy new week.
I have read several books in search of self-awareness and development in both normal life and professional development. However, this video on "emotional intelligence as a catalyst for exceptional service delivery" by Oluyemi Adeosun has helped broaden my scope on people management.

I encountered the video through a post on our professional forum to his YouTube page. That day, I just hovered it.Afterwards, I had a challenge that bothered on emotional intelligence and people management at the workplace. This, took me back to the link to watch the full video.
Emotional intelligence is defined as the ability to recognise, understand, and control my and other people's emotions to bring out their best. Mismanagement of emotions can lead to a chaotic relationship and environment, which may affect productivity. When people are happy, motivated, and healthy, productivity increases, otherwise, it decrease when the environment is toxic and chaotic.
This video has impacted me positively with skills and competencies to engage and manage my emotions even in the face of provocation. Recently, an employee had an issue of forgery which attracts a summary dismissal according to the company's policy and a weighty penalty according to my country's labour law. The individual was issued a forty eight hours in a query to come up with reasons for such behaviour. Rather than obeying instructions, the individual was going around and seeking the union's intervention until the time elapsed without a esponse to the query.
A disciplinary meeting was called, and right before me, the individual became abusive and full of threats. During the turmoil, the individual was still giving more days after the intervention of some top management staff to come up with a response to the queey, which never happened. Eventually, the arms of law took its weight upon the employee.

Before, more time wouldn’t have been given to the employee for being abusive which is a gross misconduct automatically. But with my present learning and unlearning from the video, I allowed more time. Therefore, I would recommend the video to everyone, because it helped me develop patience and emotional intelligence in people management. Not only at my workplace but in my side hustle, client management, and at home as well.
This video will help individuals to understand their emotions, manage them, and eqquip them with the ability to depict other people's emotions and manage them. This will help us build good relationships, understand people better, and treat them well. It will also assist us in providing the support needed to people around us to bring out their shine.
