Hablar de África, es hablar también de nosotros mismos; porque desde que empezaron las conquistas en América Latina y empezaron a traer los españoles y portugueses a los africanos, debe decirse de manera forzada, pues los tomaban como esclavos; estos llegaron a nuestras tierras ya con sus costumbres tanto en comidas, forma de vestir, peinados, cantos, bailes y sus creencias que eran muy diferentes a los países donde llegaron. Realizándose pronto una mezcla entre ellos y los criollos del lugar, aunque mucho se trató de que no se mezclaran las razas, fue imposible lograrlo y, gracias a Dios, porque de ellos heredamos muchas cosas positivas.
Como su templanza, resistencia, porque eran y son personas muy fuertes a pesar de todo lo que se vieron sometidos a soportar, tenían un espíritu libre y esto lo demostraban cada vez que cantaban o bailaban, con unos ritmos llenos de vida, muy movidos y la muestra eran los instrumentos que utilizaban para ello, como el tambor, entre otros, todo esto acompañado de mucho color tanto en sus ropas como en sus enseres, aportándole a todo lo que les rodeaba color, vida. Es decir, dónde llegaron dejaron su huella, con su alegría y vivacidad.
Y ni hablar de la comida a ellos le debemos muchos platos de nuestra cocina, como nuestra rica hallaca en Venezuela; que viene siendo una mezcla, de ingredientes mediterráneos como las aceitunas, pasas y alcaparras; se utilizaban las carnes de la zona donde se elaboran, hechas con harina de maíz y envueltas en hoja de plátanos. Ingredientes que usaban nuestros indígenas y los africanos, en la preparación de algunas de sus comidas. Resultando una sabrosa mezcla. Según antiguas leyendas y cuentos, se dice que la hallaca surgió también de lo que quedaba de las comidas de los españoles y portugueses y que estos se las daban a los esclavos africanos para su consumo; restos que ellos aprovechaban elaborando este rico plato.
También de sus costumbres se heredaron sus religiones, dejando una marca bastante profunda no solo en algunos países de Latinoamérica como Brasil y Cuba, por nombrar algunos; sino en otros países del mundo, donde sus prácticas son bien conocidas. Pero lo que más me gusta de esta raza, es la mezcla lograda con nuestras razas, indios, blancos, creando muchos mestizos; donde quiera que han llegado, sobre todo en mi país Venezuela, donde se puede apreciar una gran variedad de colores de piel, ojos, cabello debido a la presencia del africano en nuestros genes, brindándonos una belleza se podría decir única, con características muy particulares que se pueden apreciar en la fisonomía de muchas personas, nada más caminar por nuestras calles.
Por otro lado, sus cantos melodiosos nos han brindado mucha alegría, porque al igual que con los demás se ha sincronizado con ellos nuestra propia cultura, con los cadenciosos ritmos del africano, que están llenos de sabor y ritmo, ritmos a los cuales nos hemos amoldado de muy buena manera, tanto para bailarlos como para cantarlos, poniéndoles también nuestro toque personal. Se dice que todos los latinos tenemos ese sabor en nuestras venas gracias a esta raza llena de vitalidad, color y fuerzas.
