Today, even though we would like to avoid plastics, many products are still being manufactured in mass with plastics. I understand that once plastics was invented, it turned out to be one of the biggest innovations and even today, we require plastic for many things, but using it for the most common items and to an extent where it is spoiling our planet is unacceptable. Sometimes this raises a question about whether we should continue looking for alternatives and should never create anything in plastic again, but that's not feasible and not an option either.
Kids toys made out of plastic
I have a kid at home, and I can see that all the toys he is playing with are all plastics. I try to find many wooden toys for him, but somehow, there will always be someone who keeps buying plastic toys for him, and we cannot help it at all. The biggest worry for me is what would happen to these plastics when they get old or are thrown into the trash. We don't have a proper solution for that.
Carry bags are very common
The next biggest problem is with the carry bags. This has been banned by the government in many places. In spite of all the fine and other threats, there are still people continuously using carry bags. There are bio alternatives available in the market, but people still go for the plastic carry bags because it is cheaper compared to others.
Scam behind plastics that can be recycled
Some plastics are available in the market that comes with a branding saying that it can be recycled and that's one excuse for them to get all the necessary paper work done. But ultimately only a few percentage of those plastics go for recycling. The remaining goes to the trash and continues to harm the planet.
Think about alternatives
Bio based carry bags and paper carry bags, and other alternatives are now available in the market. The biggest problem with plastics is that there is no use in banning people from using them. The ban should be on companies that manufacture plastics, and that's where things should stop. Today we have paper cups available in the market and there are still people who purchase plastic cups. The main reason is that it is available at a cheaper price.
Today, the world is looking for a solution to make plastics biodegradable. They are very keen on finding out how plastics can be fed to bacteria or other microorganisms and convert it to other forms. The reason is that it is very hard to bring a complete stop on plastics as it has become an integral part of our lives. Just like how they stopped using BPA plastics in regular use, there should be bioplastics somehow that are less to all harmful for humans. But this can take years. Let's wait and see.
