Over the last week, I have been consuming a lot of Pomegranate while traveling. The main reason is that it is an antioxidant and is capable of reducing sores and ulcers in the stomach. There are so many other benefits in Pomegranate, and that's one of the reasons why it is called a superfruit. No wonder that it was served to the kings and royal gatherings across the world in ancient India. Greeks also believed that it helped increase fertility in both men and women.
The Largest producer is India
When I first read about this, I was surprised to see that India was the largest producer of Pomegranate in the world. It is one of the costliest fruits available in India. Especially the top-quality ones are very costly. Whenever I consume the fruit, I used to wonder what makes it very costly, and now I understand that the majority of it is being exported to other countries, making it very costly.
Top-quality varieties are produced in India. I thought China might be the top producer, but I learned that it was India that produced the top quality ones and exported it to other countries. Maharashtra is the top state where Pomegranate is produced but it is produced in several other states as well.
Consuming Pomegranate
Usually, peeling off the skin and consuming the fruit is what happens commonly. But in juice shops we will be able to see that they just cut it in half and just beat on top of it to extract all the beeds from it easily. It is either consumed directly or it is taken as juice. It is good to consume it just like that or in the juice format. Some people even take it along with other food items. It is very common to see Pomegranate added to Curd rice and consumed.
I mostly take it in juice format. The main reason is that when I take it directly, the seeds become a problem for me. It goes and get stuck in between my teeth and it become a discomfort for me. This red color Pomegranate is very common these days, but I remember the white ones from my childhood. This tree was easily in our backyard. Today it is not very commonly grown in the backyard and it has become one of the biggest cash crop.
