There was a time when I was super excited about the SPS node validator license in the splinterlands game. This was launched in year 2022 and at that time it was expected that its mechanism would go live in the same year. It means that it should have gone live in 2022 but now in 2024 also we have no clarity on its further development. The cost of SPS was 4k hive when I purchased the license and it was too high in the in-game market so I did buy from the hive-engine.
After a long time today, I checked the price for a license in hive-engine and its too low. I paid more than 4k hive for 1 license in 2023 and its been more than 1.5 years of my purchase. Now the cost of one license has gone down and currently, it is just 1/4 of the value that I paid in the year 2023. To be honest I never expected this price however the reward has been ongoing that was promised by the team hence I'm getting some sps along with voucher tokens every day but because the token value is less.
If we have a look at the buy and sell orders in the market for the node validator license then this value is more in the range of 1000 hive and since the hive price is low in the market this value is also quite low and since the high price is low in the market so this value is also quite low. Needless to mention in the shop option where we can buy ....based on the current sps market price in the shop option where we can buy the license, the value is the same and accordingly it is adjusted with sps based on the current sps market price.
My License Holding
As I already mentioned I purchased one license in the last quarter of 2023 and since then I have been holding it. I hold this as of now, and this license I kept in the game account. This is what I hold as of now and the reward is also claimed every day as you can see in the below snapshot. If we hold the license in the game account then we are eligible for the reward but keeping it in the marketplace will not get any reward. If we hold the license in the game account then we are eligible to get a daily reward but keeping the license in the market will not get any reward.
I get approximately 4 vouchers and 18 SPS every day as part of the license reward and this can be a good reward in terms of quantity but not in dollar value. The price for SPS is not even 1 cent now hence this value is something that can not excite anyone to buy any more licenses. I invested in the license for the long term and I was hoping for some great development but seems like things are not going as planned.
My invested amount on the license is still not recovered but since I have invested for the long term I hope that things will improve. I will continue to hold this asset in the game account and earn whatever SPS is rewarded for this. Recently the game team has been trying to remove vouchers and if that happens then I am not sure how they will adjust the reward distribution once the voucher is removed from the ecosystem. What are your thoughts on the sps node validator license? Do you own it and if not then do you think its worth investing in this now when the price is quite low?
