Writing this has been harder than I thought it would. It’s been almost about a week since this happened, and the incident caused me to be awfully quiet for days. Because I know and have heard stories of people being wicked, but I didn't think I would actually see someone being wicked, especially to the person they claim to love.
You know it’s one thing to hear stories, and it’s a different thing to see the story unfold right under your nose. That’s a different ballgame altogether.
Almost a week ago, a woman came to the hospital with dizziness as her main complaint. Her blood sample was drawn, and a full blood count was done immediately because she even collapsed right at the entrance of the hospital. She came with her husband and another young lady whom I assumed was her daughter.
After the test was done, we found out her Hb was 4.7, which indicates a very low blood level. I wasn’t really scared because I have seen someone with an Hb of 1.0 who survived. So the husband was informed of the situation, and that was when everything turned into a movie in front of my eyes.
He was informed of the situation at hand and his options. So in Ghana, when someone needs a blood transfusion, the person can either get a donor or get a matching blood sample from the health facility’s blood bank. In this case, the man had to choose the former because all the blood in the blood bank was for pregnant women who were due for delivery.
After patiently listening to all that we had to tell him, he said he himself can’t even donate blood for his wife, and he doesn’t think he has the “energy” to go about looking for a matching donor because his wife wasn’t worth it. At first, I thought I heard wrong, but after looking at the faces of my colleagues, I realized my ears were working well.
In the end, we found out the lady he came with wasn’t his daughter but his mistress he was having an affair with. And they have plans of watching the woman die so they can elope with the wife’s death insurance. The interesting part is I was the one who overheard the whole conversation between the man and his “mistress” and I seriously wish I could erase it from my memory. And I think it would have had for me to believe if someone else told me this.
As I said earlier, I’ve heard stories of people being wicked but this is a whole new level. And I want to believe that whoever created the word wicked probably met this guy in his or her life. I’m just glad that we got a donor for her and she’s now well. The part that is bothering me is she doesn’t even know the plans the man has for her and probably doesn’t also know the lady is her husband’s mistress. But I hope she finds out eventually.
