Dogs do make lovely companions! Our family dog, in fact, actually saved my son's life a few years ago! She is no longer of this world, but we will never forget her.
As for trusting people; that can be hard, especially when you've been hurt. I'd like to believe everyone is good, but I have run into those who appear to not be. I understand where you are coming from.

Siento mucho lo de tu perro, así es amiga, son unos seres muy hermosos que forman parte de nuestra familia, y cuando ya no están igual los recordamos con mucho cariño.
No debemos cerrar nuestro corazón porque más son las personas buenas, pero es preferible estar atentos y cuidarnos porque no es fácil cuando una persona nos lastima volver a confiar.

Cochiti has been gone for 10 years this August, but had it not been for her behavior some years ago, a lady wouldn't have stopped at an alpine lake and saved my son who couldn't swim, but went in anyway alone and almost drowned. Cochiti will never be forgotten, nor the lady who stopped and jumped in to save him either.
