Today I will share a narrative belonging to a very particular literary genre, the micro-story. When I had the opportunity to read Augusto Monterroso, my curiosity for this very brief narrative began, since I find it fascinating to develop a story in a few lines.
In my eagerness to discover other microrelatos narrators, I found the book Centipede, there Neus Rotger and Fernando Valls, compile a sample of 28 authors, about 80 texts, whose reading was of my total pleasure, even in its pages you can find very interesting literary theory about this genre.
The title Centipede is metaphorical, suggesting that each leg is a story, and so is the cover image, the cubist painting Man in a café, by Juan Gris, a work that looks like a mosaic of pictorial scraps that are assembled to conceive an idea. That is how this book works.
I selected three stories that I consider a significant sample of what I indicate. The first of them is Friday dinner by Julia Otxoa. Here the starting point is an anecdote in a butcher's shop and a few lines later it is discovered that a fortuitous event can function as an emotional revenge. This story presents all the elements of the literary theory that uses the short story as an object of study, but its length is less than one page, which gives an idea of what it is to go into detail.
In the story The Announcement by Harold Kremer, the author employs the strategy of the cyclical story or the snake that dies its tail. At the end of the narrative text, the reader must retrace his steps to delve into the verisimilitude of the story and from there draw conclusions. The tension is well achieved and the denouement requires complicity, which is precisely the narrator's intention.
Finally, I chose Happiness by the renowned author Andrés Neuman. Here the first-person narrator presents us with a story designed to create uncertainty, but it also has its psychological basis in personality disorder, which is very common, especially in adolescents. This micro-story expresses in a few words the complexity of a couple's relationship and at the same time leads us to reflect on self-deception, that imaginary game that distorts the notion of reality.
As can be seen, Centipede presents a wide diversity of short fiction of high quality. Each author has his own style, from the anecdote, the existential digressions and even reflective proposals work as raw material to make stories that are raised from the brevity, but retaining all its substance.

El título Ciempiés resulta metafórico, sugiere que cada pata es un cuento, y también la imágen de portada, la pintura cubista Hombre en un café, de Juan Gris, obra que parece un mosaico de retazos pictóricos que se ensamblan para concebir una idea. Así funciona este libro.
Seleccioné tres relatos que considero una muestra significativa de lo que indico. El primero de ellos es La cena del viernes de Julia Otxoa. Aquí el punto de partida es una anécdota en una carnicería y unas líneas después se descubre que un hecho fortuito puede funcionar como desquite emocional. Esta narración presenta todos los elementos de la teoría literaria que utiliza al cuento como objeto de estudio, pero su extensión es menor a una página, lo que concede una idea de lo que es puntualizar en detalles.
En tanto en el relato El anuncio de Harold Kremer, el autor emplea la estrategia de la historia cíclica o de la serpiente que se muerde la cola. Al finalizar el texto narrativo, el lector debe regresar sobre sus pasos para ahondar en la verosimilitud del cuento y a partir de allí extraer conclusiones. La tensión está bien lograda y el desenlace requiere de complicidad, lo que justamente es la intención del narrador.
Por último, elegí La Felicidad del reconocido autor Andrés Neuman. Acá el narrador en primera persona nos presenta una historia dispuesta para crear incertidumbre, pero también tiene su base psicológica en el trastorno de la personalidad, que suele ser muy común, sobre todo en adolescentes. Este microrrelato expresa en pocas palabras la complejidad de un relación de pareja y a su vez nos lleva a reflexionar sobre el autoengaño, ese juego imaginario que distorsiona la noción de realidad.
Como se advierte, Ciempiés presenta una amplia diversidad de ficción breve de alta factura. Cada autor tiene su propio estilo, desde la anécdota, las divagaciones existenciales y hasta propuestas reflexivas funcionan como materia prima para fabricar historias que son planteadas desde la brevedad, pero conservando toda su sustancia.
