Good day, friends. How has our farms and gardens been this year. 😊 Many of us are mere blockchain subscribers who have entered a farm before. In any case, you are a member of the Hive Garden Community.
The farming activities in my country, Nigeria has experienced some funny seasonal changes. I have never experienced it the way I experienced it this year. The rainy season was unpredictable. We had a momentarily dry season between July and August. That was not a funny story at all. Crops like maize suffered serious setbacks. Presently, we are experiencing the same phenomenon. Farmers had thought that the rain, which came back later, might endure till the month of November. But sadly, the case is different. Most of our maize plants which were doing well with the rain that came in September and October are drying up now due to the dry season that has set in quite much earlier than expected.
This years harvest is not very encouraging. Some of the crops which have been adversely affected include maize, beans, yam, guinea corn and partly potatoes.
Maize is one of our valuable output from the farms. Maize grains constitute one of our major food stuffs. It is used in the manufacture of Semovita. Semovita is a major food in Nigeria. It is eat virtually daily in most homes. Maize is also process into pap. Pap is a regular breakfast for most homes.
This year the production of this maize has been tormented by the drought we experienced in July/August; and the one we are experiencing now. It was expected that since the rain didn't fall in July and August, that we will have a handful of it in November. Now, we have been disappointed by this early dry season setting in this November.
Honestly, our harvest has been affected badly by the adverse weather conditions this year. We do not have much yam productions and potatoes because the rain was not sufficient to support their growth. The beans and the guinea corn in the farm are not really hopeful because there is no more rain to enhance their growth and production. What a year we had this year!
