I earned my first Card and I have to say that it is a very risky Unit to play due to Stray Shot dealing damage to a random unit. There is no way to mitigate the RNG with Card placement. Mana cost of 7 is very high for what we get. I think this would be a very useful 4 Mana Card.

The creation of the Card itself is utterly brilliant IMO. Most players were not getting anything out of the Weekly Fortune Draws. Adding a powerful Card to the game means lots of deliberation. Adding a Card that is too weak ends up being more or less bloat. Luckiest Longshot is interesting and has a high Mana cost. There is even some funny lore around the character. The trend that started with Chaos Legion Epic Cards of having disadvantageous abilities has been one of the best additions to Splinterlands gameplay.
The Stats Get Better At Higher Levels

I assume this is a major reason why Luckiest Longshot has 32 cent Market price despite being a Common Card in Conclave Arcana. Overall I think this is one good case study of clever game (reward) design. Utility of the Card itself is a different matter.
