With the death of a great Hive game, dCity, I found myself in a bit of a void, looking for another game to be involved in.
In years gone by, I’ve played a bit of Splinterlands and always liked the lore and the visual design of Splinterlands. While battling is fun, I realized that I didn’t really have the time to put into battles to progress to where I wanted to go. So I settled into more of a card renter role and was quite content, until the card rental market crashed a few years ago.
Interest fizzled out and was redirected into other venues. But there were whispers of Lands.
This spoke to me. Owning a piece of digital real estate, producing resources, upgrading and expanding. Thus I’m now (quite late) entering a for me brave new frontier - The Wild Northeast, Praetoria.

The Wild Northeast called to me, as the northern wild and cold tends to do. So I picked up the deeds for two Plots in the region of Swubia.
These plots will be able to sustain the farming of grains, despite the harsh climate. Grain production, the life blood of the land owner. Without grain to feed the workers, building any sort of settlements and producing any kind of work, would be impossible.

My two plots are of the Terrain Types Bog and River. Both a of Common rarity, as rarer Plots just are too expensive at the moment.
Getting started with Lands and setting up a few productive plots has some decently steep requirements.
I’m working on setting up my first plot, the Bog, while my River plot currently stands in disuse. I need to get my hands of quite a bit of DEC to start producing any sizeable amount of grains on both plots.
In the Bog, I’ve invested in the required Power Core (5000 DEC) and I’m working on staking enough Dark Energy in the region to be able to field all five workers positions. Currently I’m at 20000 DEC, which enables me to field two workers at full efficiency. Production is growing, but not much yet.

I’ve also been picking up some workers from the market place, both for current and future use. For my Bog, I need Death and Water workers, as this match in Terrain Preferability grants these worker a +10% Production Boost.

I decided to start out with a set of Chaos Legion Common Gold Foil monsters at Max Level, as several of them can be purchased quite cheaply. Gold Foil is nice and shiny, but this was mainly due to the fact that a max level Gold Foil Common provides 2000 Production Points, compared to a regular foil max level Legendary, which provides 1500 Production Points.

As usually when starting new things, the plan of action is not always crystal clear. This lead to that in addition to these two plots and workers, I bought a few more plots and workers. In hindsight, I should have focused more on staking Dark Energy in the region to allow me to faster get more workers out on the grain fields. But these resources will sit quietly and wait, they’ll be very useful as I grow my tiny frozen piece of land.
For now, I’m just enjoying getting started with my little Splinterlands Land project.
