A visit to Western Australia is not complete without a visit to the Perth Mint. Stackers across the world know of this mint as it produces a variety of bullion and collectables.
My visit was a short one and as such, I didn't have time to grab any silver bullion coins I wanted, but I can get those online (there is usually a queue to access bullion over the counter at the mint!)
Instead I decided to grab a Royal Australian Mint coin set that was available. The current one was the Change of Monarch release.
Australian legal tender coins bear the effigy of the English Monarch on their obverse (as we are a Commonwealth country). The six coins in this mint pay homage to the change of Monarch. Portraits Queen Elizabeth II appear on five of the coins all depicting the various stages of her age! The new effigy of King Charles III appears on the $2 coin in the collection. In keeping with tradition the new portrait of The King faces left, the opposite direction from the effigies of his mother.
This coin mint was only released days ago and has been a hot item in the coin collecting world. With only 100,000 minted, the Royal Australian Mint held a ballot for people to grab a copy. I was lucky enough to be at the Pert Mint when they were released, and as an official re-seller, I could grab one without being in the ballot. This collection is already reselling at 3 times the purchase price.
Let's see how this collection appreciates!
