Delaware Separation Day

in #pimp5 months ago

Once upon a time, a good long time ago (the 1700s), the Colony of Delaware did not exist alongside it's sister colonies of Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. In fact, the three Delaware counties - called "the Lower Counties" - shared a Governor with Pennsylvania and were technically a part of said Colony of Pennsylvania.

Ew.

On June 15, 1776, the three Lower Counties declared their independence from Pennsylvania which, at the time, was still a part of the British Empire; as a result of the declaration, not only did Delaware declare independence from PA, but also from England.

The First State.

New Castle, Delaware, celebrates Separation Day the second weekend every June.

I attended festivities. Some Saturday. Mostly Friday night.

Friday night was a beer garden and some great music from the Blue Cat Blues. Fantastic live band. I could - and did - sit there all night listening to them. What I did not do is take a digital photo of them, but I did take film photos. I will share when finally developed!

Saturday was more of a festival environment. Games. Rides. Food. People selling things. Very American.
