The Pressure of Passion

I think some people have a drive to become great at something but this should not be the expected norm, or even really lauded as a superior quality in relation to other people. The value of living has so many more facets different from being great at something- I feel the obsession where everyone is supposed do find their "passion" comes from the very recent way we value specialization and prdouctivity. In the grand scheme of human life, that is a small sliver of what people can be invested in, and isn't really something we evolved for either. In my opinion, there are ways to live a "normal" and more average life, where you aren't giving concerted effort to a particular thing, in great and admirable ways. It all depends on how you define greatness.

I think a lot of people feel pressured to in order to distinguish themselves and their lives as valuable nowadays.

Then there are people with a drive, and I couldn't really explain it. I want to become great in certain areas and increasingly have to put in immense work for it, it's not really suffering though because it's what I find intrinsically rewarding. I also have very narrow focus possibly as part of autism- a lot of people I have seen who focus enough on something to be great at it are kind of obsessive and unbalanced compared to the average person, but it's how they live. It becomes suffering when you want to be more balanced but are devoting all your energy to being great for some sort of external validation. That's at least what I guess. To refer to what I earlier said, though, becoming obsessively great at something isn't superior or better than being "average" or "good".
