A few days back I did mention about the Solar Panels project for my new home. Finally, the Solar panels are installed and they are also connected with the batteries. Doing this was very important for me, I wanted some freedom around this part of the home. The place where we are building the home does not have stability with the electricity supply. There are a lot of power fluctuations and outages that happen on regular basis. In such a scenario, it is important for us to think of a stable source of generating electricity. The other main reason is also to be self-sufficient.
In Covid times we have seen how things got under government control. In the future days to come, no one knows what all can happen with their control, so this was also on my mind from the beginning to be not 100% dependent for resources on them and to have a back up plan. The Solar panels takes care of both these issues. We got 6 panels of 550 watts installed with a 200 Ah 4 batteries.
Honestly I do not understand much of the technicalities, what I understand is that this set up will be good to provide electricity for the home excluding the geyser and air-condition usage. If I include these 2 then the set up will be much bigger and become very expensive also. I do not even feel it was necessary, because the place is cool most part of the year, and for hot water there are always other alternatives. With this set up, if there is a total power failure then I can still have my lights, fans and utilities running. The battery comes with a warranty of 5 years.
There is a government scheme also for solar projects, wherein they would give the complete cost of the solar panels and in return whatever monthly electricity is generated has to be transferred to them. With that they would also give a good subsidy on the monthly electricity bill. It is quite a lucrative offer, but then it would defeat the whole purpose of being independent. Hubby was keen on it, but I was not, as getting subsidy was never an idea in the first place. Finally we went ahead with our own project, keeping it independent from all government related schemes.
Preparing for the panels to be installed. There was fabrication work to be done before the installation of the panels.
The installation is done. It's made in such a way that it gives roof to this mini terrace area
The panels are connected with the batteries which are kept in a enclosed room ensuring that it is not exposed to water.
From below it just looks like a roof
I am very happy on this one getting completed. It was a necessity for our home more then anything else. Now we are relieved even with the power outage issues, because that is also one big concern specially in the summer season.
