Reflections: “Quitters never win and winners never quit ( Contest #249)

Hello 👋 amazing #ladiesofhive, welcome to my blog. I trust your day is going on well. I like reflecting on my journey and restrategising on set goals. It gives me the neeeded push to the next level. So I present my view on the topic using a real life scenario. Happy reading .

Looking back to my yesteryears, I started my journey with my parents and 6 siblings in a rural area, with just a few parents owning cars and little luxuries in my neighbourhood

We were of the middle class. My Dad owns a Datsun car with a well-placed position in one of the Local Government Areas in Eastern Nigeria. Life was fun, blissful and incredible with my parents. We often visit the Zoo, attend children's day and visit some shopping malls.

Fast forward to my secondary school days, because of civil service transfers, I stayed with my uncles, which also led to a detachment between me and my parents during school days, causing me to always look forward to vacations to reunite with my parents. But hey! Life happened, I lost my Mum after graduation, and that delayed my admission to the higher institution.
This major incident in my life broke me, but did not stop me. A few years later, I was admitted to the University to study marketing and graduated with a second-class honours upper division. Though life threw a lemon at me, I used it to prepare lemonade.
After graduation, I landed my first job as a customer service manager. This happened after I concluded my national youth service program with a music and musical instruments retail firm. It became a turning point for me because of the exposure the job gave me. There, I won the 2015 and 2017 staff of the year award.

In 2019, an economic tsunami affected companies. We were not spared. It hit the business hard, and a restructuring was initiated, which resulted in the downsizing of employees. Though I was spared, the firm never remained the same. It affected a lot of paradigms, causing anxiety and uncertainty among the remaining staff.

I buckled up and reached out to my networks, though a career shift also happened, which made it easier for me to plan my exit from the business. By 2020, I joined a consulting firm. It was an entirely new space for me, but with continuous learning and unlearning, I quickly adapted and started adding value. But there again, something isn't right for me here. Self-development was at your own risk, but you know, life has a way of judging your inability to face challenges squarely.

I adjusted and set short-term goals for myself, which included acquiring skills, enhancing my competencies and attending training to upgrade myself, career-wise. I also started my MBA with Liverpool John Moores University. In midyear 2023, a good opportunity presented itself through a fellow consultant. I gave it a short and history was made. I got the offer and presently work there in a managerial capacity.

In conclusion, looking back, my journey to where I am today was one characterised by ups and downs. Little smile there, little pain there. It is said that there is no success without pain, rather no cross, no gain. Some of my plans while in school were thwarted either by a strike or a missing script.

The downsizing also affected my plan and triggered my career shift. Meaning that change is constant in life. As the tides of life change, an individual is also expected to re-strategise sharply.

All these made my journey, though stormy, worth it. Looking back from my yesteryears to the present, I will say that I am still a clay in the potter's vessel, being moulded. Moving forward, I am being moulded to my stardom.

Excellent summation!

Thank you for the feedback,.

Yes, you know adversity they said is a mother of invention.

To be challenged is to be privileged for a higher height.

I am happy to share my story regarding my journey.

Gracias

Um, I need to correct you here, the saying is "necessity is the mother of invention," but adversity would definitely run a close second hahahahaha.
This is from dictionary.com: "A need or problem encourages creative efforts to meet the need or solve the problem". This saying appears in the dialogue Republic, by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato. ❤️

Woah, thank you for that correction.

That's amazing. I will take a look at that sentence from the site you mentioned for future engagement...
It's been great having you around this page.

We learn and unlearn everyday.
