No Gree For Them - First Poetry of The Year ❗

Crossing over to the new year is a great feat and must be celebrated. Many people have thought less about this though. They seem to relate each passing day as a phase and a new year means nothing, hence, they intentionally refuse to play the celebration down. However, some of us do agree to the phenomenon that times and days are numbers and a new year is another experience altogether.

Let's move away from the parlance that some people do not see anything serious about a new year. The real thing that is making the rounds in the public space is the assertion "No Gree For Them". The statement means a lot and is spoken in Pidgin English. The Nigerian vernacular which is referred to as Broken English has a lot of grip in giving meaning or sense to a scenario.

No Gree For Them, when transliterated simply means Focus. Yeah! That's the simplest interpretation we can give to the statement. It could also mean that individuals should stand their ground and not slip on any opportunity.

It is on the parlance that I would be writing a poem, to welcome you all to a year of great opportunities. Like they say, there are great opportunities everyday and the fittest grabs it. What is your focus for the year? Have you written them down in your diary or in your heart?

No Gree For Them

That one night when it all turned, fireworks rocked our assembly, you met with your enemy that same night, the neighbour you have blacklisted on your phone contact, but with a dashing smile, all the bad cord got broken, and a new phase began.

Some made it war, from one street to the other, pursuing one another with knockouts, all the adults sat still, sipping from beer tumblars, while waiting for the ship at the shores of Marina to blar their horns, just to welcome a new year.

Just like a dream, the year we all endured passed by, and a new year began, first in seconds and the minutes, now hours have passed and even days, an and yet the sky hasn't turn green, life continues, only that men should be focused

Not a staged drama anymore, the year brought in a vibe, men need not mesmerize themselves, believing that you could just sit there, and boom, things will just happen with engaging it, lets play and plan to restore.

Nothing has happened, yet many things have happened so far, sleep not on it, every time there is a success waiting to be achieved, for persons who are ready to go at it, keep up you effort, like a cat of seven lives.

Do not settle for less this year, break even and be known for the new song, take that giant stride, no gree for them bro, be positive-minded, keep the faith sis, your name could go in to the books of world records, just no gree for them.

Everyone of us can be better this year. As an organization group or community, let's go for the gold and prove that our efforts paid up at last. Remember, no one is at war with you not to make it this year. The war is against yourself. Best yourself up, don't be lazy because every moment counts.
