๐ killerwot ๐
@killerwot came to us late last year. His love for sci-fi and building intricate worlds was evident from his first post. A lover of music and a lover of people, as he approached, his spirit shone on us all... and on the newly birthed land of the Scholars, and dare I say it... Scribes. ๐ฑ
Little did we know what sort of Scribe he would become...
Scribe of the Year babyyyy ๐
As Scribe of the Year, @killerwot will receive 10 HSBI, 275 Pizza, and 1000 Ecency points, as a token of gratitude from the Scholar and Scribe family for his continuous hard work and dedication.
At the end of last year, the timelines lined up perfectly for our budding Scribe. And what I mean is for the storyline of Scribe of the Year, because that's the only thing that matters here amirite? hundreds of heads nod @killerwot concluded last year by finishing a novel, and in true KWOT fashion, blogging about his process.
It is only fitting that he started his SOTY journey with a brand new story. Something... more grandiose... interplanetary. He started small, a self-contained story set in his vast and expanding universe - Sud-Suds Speeder
Wazzy was talking with the most beautiful woman he'd ever spoken to, she was a Doshan and her purple-tinted eyes were fixed solely on him. Her undivided attention filled him with the kind of love that he had only read about or seen in those old holo-vid recordings. He was concentrating so much on not spoiling the moment they were having by saying something stupid, that he ended up just staying silent. Her lips were glossy and as she moved to speak, an unyielding screech could only be heard - her face contorted and he tried desperately to shake off the horrific noise; the sound only got louder still as she opened her mouth and he begged her to stop.
@killerwot continued this spree of stand-alone short stories with First Day of Peace, A Den on Besk, Paid Protection, Family Man and Walking The Dead Zone. Just to name a few.
I put an accent on this because Killah's a megalomaniac. He thinks BIG! We talkin' universe-scaling big. I have not come across a person connected with their world more than Killah. The passion he has for it, and his craft, is unmistakable.
I am so happy that he chose Scholar and Scribe as the hub for his stories. ๐
I have had many conversations with @killerwot on the types of stories he enjoys, and what he wants his world to encompass. I can assure you all (as much as my word is worth nowadays) that he cares about the craft more than most. As he cares about honoring what has come before, and taking what he needs for himself. As authors, the ancient art of yoinking from better writers is a time-honored tradition. ๐ฏ
And what has come before? Sci-fi. Sci-fi and only Sci-fi. For there is no other genre of import. Amirite? The man knows what he likes and he dives straight away in his influences and swims with them until the water runs dry. Tried a swimming metaphor, cut me some slack. ๐
A hallmark of Scholar and Scribe is the marked improvement of our most dedicated members. @killerwot is the best example of this. His writing has gone through such a stark change since his first few stories. The structure, the pacing, the characterization. His world-building has always been top-notch, but the prose aspect of his craft has gone through significant improvements. Love to see it. ๐
Finally, let's check out something newer, what has ol' KWOT been up to? Ask no more! It's a novella. ๐
Walking down the winding tunnel networks; encased in concrete and old steel. Dust fragments rained on them. M'Trada - after a few minutes down here - could feel the thick coating on his tongue. It tasted like chemicals and dirt. After a few minutes more of walking, he found himself spit for the first time.
Each chapter is split up between posts and kept up-to-date like the diligent Paddy he is. @killerwot is currently looking for an editor for this Novella, so if you have any experience in the field please reach out.
For the rest of us mere mortals, I encourage you to give this as-of-yet-unnamed novella a try. It showcases Killah's strengths and is a fun read to boot! ๐ข I am so very excited to find out what is next in the vast expanse of KWOT's mind.
The body was heavy, but between the two of them, they managed to lift it with ease. As they had a grip on it, the barrier disengaged allowing for the rain - which was much heavier now - to land on them. With one slow heave, the body was hanging over the side and a final push saw it being dragged down by its own weight to the street below. Again, the barrier engaged and they were once more protected from the environment as a dance of light tapped across the the top of it.
Thank you for being a part of this community @killerwot! And here's to another year of fantastic writing! Join me in giving him a big round of applause! ๐๐๐
