Topic: "A Habit That Changed My Life"
Due to the situation in Venezuela, which most of us are experiencing, I recently found myself needing to get a job as a security guard. Most of the available shifts were at night, the pay was acceptable, and after thinking about it many times and discussing it with my husband, I decided to work those night shifts.
At first, it was difficult not sleeping at night, but as time went on, I got used to it until staying awake became a habit. I tried to sleep during the day, but sometimes it was very difficult because I have small children, and it's very complicated. Mothers will understand.
This new nighttime habit greatly affected me. Although I could manage to sleep during the day when my children allowed me, staying awake at night was a real challenge. Honestly, sleeping through the night is not the same as sleeping intermittently during the day.
Having a night job and developing the habit of not sleeping at night changed many aspects of my life. I felt tired during the day, my face looked tired, I lacked the energy to go out or cook on my days off, and I often neglected my children and their schoolwork, leaving everything to their grandmother.
I thought about it, and my husband and I decided that for the well-being of our family, it was best to leave my job and look for one that, even if it didn't pay enough, would at least allow me to enjoy time with my children and dedicate myself to them.
I changed my habit of not sleeping at night because of my job as a security guard and resolved to make it a habit to spend more time with my family. I learned that sometimes money isn't everything; family is paramount.
I got a part-time job, but it gives me the opportunity to spend more time with my family. If I have the chance to get a better job with a better salary without changing my lifestyle or my dreams, I would accept it as long as I don't sacrifice time with my children—just what's necessary and that it guarantees us a decent standard of living.
Thank you for reading my post. I'd like to invite @ismeris, @katriel1, and @dari-s to participate in this initiative.
