According to Western astrology, my zodiac sign is Aquarius. I've explored many websites, articles, and books about my Zodiac sign. While some of the articles attribute different traits to Aquarians, many of them share commonalities. For instance, most of them state that Aquarians are “innovative, progressive, clever and creative.” During my high school days, students, particularly my classmates, were so bent on living their lives with the concept of “zodiac signs.” They’d go on saying things like “Because you’re Taurus and I’m a Cancer, we cannot be together.” Of course, these happened in episodes. Sporadically. It was as if the spirit of zodiac sign would attack them and after it had made them say or do things, it would leave them to live their normal lives. Then, in a matter of moments, they’d start repeating the same Taurus-Cancer incompatibility they'd read about.
Many of my classmates enjoyed living their lives by this concept. On the other hand, there were those, like me, who didn’t give 2 checks about Zodiac signs. I knew there was a thing called Zodiac signs, but I wasn’t just interested in it. Throughout my high school days, while some of my friends were going around rambling Zodiac signs, I was so just so unbothered about it. Years after I graduated, I joined Hive and realized that the obsession with Zodiac signs was not only in my high school. I was surprised to discover that many people, like my classmates, tagged their behaviors and characteristics to their zodiac signs. That was when I started caring about Zodiac signs and I decided to read a little further about the concept. I remember a community made us write a prompt about it, so I did my research.
The concept of zodiac signs and Western astrology is an interesting and fascinating topic. It has helped many people grow in different areas and also helped them become self aware. Whether you believe in the Zodiac sign is totally up to you. We are all entitled to different opinions and perspectives after all. For me, I don’t believe a bunch of weird-looking symbols and something about the moon have anything to do with our behaviors. Some of the traits of Aquarius that I have read online clearly define my personality, but most of them are just out of place, especially the negative ones. I also realized that I fit into traits from other zodiac signs. A zodiac sign that does not match mine describes me better. Incredible!
As I mentioned earlier, I don’t have anything against people who believe in zodiac signs. But there is where to draw the line. First off, zodiac sign shouldn’t be a method for choosing your partner or friend. “He is a Tarius and I’m an Aquarius. We cannot be together.” That is one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever heard. Instead of focusing on zodiac sign as a basis for your union, why not focus on the important things?
There are also people who use zodiac signs as a justification for their actions. Imagine someone getting angry unnecessarily and claiming “I am a Cancer. We get angry easily. I can’t help it.” No, your behavior is messed up, not because you are a Cancer. You are just a headache who needs fixing. Rather than justifying their actions with Zodiac signs, people should own up to their mistakes and try to change for the better. Fix yourself instead of blaming a bunch of symbols.
Again, zodiac sign is an interesting and fascinating topic, but there is where to draw the line.
