Technology: A Helpful Friend Or A Silent Problem?

in Indiaunited11 hours ago

The advantages of technology cannot be overemphasized. In recent years, the world has experienced a massive rise in technological advancement unlike anything before. Every day, experts keep creating new machines, tools, and equipment to make life easier and way better. The truth is that these innovations have a lot of benefits, but beneath these beneath are also complications. Now, the question is: Is technology making life easier or complicated?

Decades ago, technology wasn’t as advanced as it is now. Back in the day, communication was very difficult. People communicated with friends using crude methods like smoke signals, letters and the one I find quite interesting, pigeons. Now, imagine that you want to send a message to a friend who lives far away, maybe in another country. Back in the day, you would have to go to the post office, and then send the message through a letter which could take months. Sometimes the letter would not get delivered. Years before letter writing became a thing, people communicated using smoke signals, and this type was limited as I think it was used for warning.

My point is that before the advent of technology, communication was in the dark. With technology, people can send messages just from the comfort of their homes. All they just need to do is press a few buttons. Regardless of the person's location, as long as they have a working phone and internet, then they are good to go. Humans don’t need to spend their time writing letters with ink, they don’t need to go to the post office to send letters that could take months.

The importance of technology is not only limited to communication. It cuts across all aspects of our lives, really. For example, the washing machine. I remember during my high school days. It was a chore coming back from school and having to wash my uniform. Doing laundry was one of the things I disliked. But now, there is a machine that has taken away the stressful part. And all you have to do is monitor it. Let’s talk about blenders and grinders. Back in the day, people made use of local mortal and pestle. There’s this stony thingy that people in my country use to blend peppers, some people still use it. Thanks to blenders and graters, we can complete little tasks like this easily. All we have to do is press a few buttons.

Now, the big boss, AI, has entered the picture. Countless times, AI has helped me throughout my last years in university. It made my academic life easier by breaking down complex topics. Most times, the lecturer left us to read and understand topics on our own, but thanks to ChatGPT and other AI tools, I was able to pull through.

So yes, technology has made my life easier. I honestly can't think about how we would survive if these things weren't around. Of course, we would, but it would be extremely difficult. I would say that the only way technology makes life complicated is if humans take it to the extreme. These innovations are there to help us. However, we should know when not to rely on them completely. For example, AI. While we can use AI to solve our problems, we shouldn't use it to literally do everything. We should know when to draw the line.

Thanks for reading.

agreed, self-limitation is very important in the use of technology
