Today I want to share with you a very special news, two new chicks have joined my brood! Since Friday night I was told that they would be given to me, because the person who had them knew that I raise birds and thought they would be fine with me. The excitement was immediate, but also the anxiety to prepare a good space for them. I spent most of that night planning where I would place them, imagining how they would be integrated with the others, and anxiously awaiting the arrival of the morning to receive them.
We woke up early, my husband and I, with excitement palpable on the surface. We went out to look for them with great expectation. The sky dawned with some scattered clouds, but nothing that announced imminent rain. In any case, at home we are always grateful for the rain when it comes, because the drought has been prolonged and our plants will receive it with gratitude.

Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una noticia muy especial, ¡se han unido dos nuevos pollos a mi cría! Desde el viernes en la noche me comentaron que me los darían, pues la persona que los tenía sabía que yo crío aves y pensó que estarían bien conmigo. La emoción fue inmediata, pero también la ansiedad por prepararles un buen espacio. Pasé gran parte de esa noche planeando dónde los colocaría, imaginando cómo sería su integración con los demás, y esperando con ansias la llegada de la mañana para poder recibirlos.
Nos despertamos temprano, mi esposo y yo, con la emoción palpable a flor de piel. Salimos a buscarlos con mucha expectativa. El cielo amaneció con algunas nubes dispersas, pero nada que anunciara lluvias inminentes. De todas maneras, en casa siempre agradecemos la lluvia cuando llega, pues la sequía ha sido prolongada y nuestras plantas la recibirán con gratitud.
When we finally arrived at the site and I saw the pair of Brahma chickens, I was in complete awe. They are majestic birds; the rooster is pure, brilliant white, while the hen looks a mixture of white and gray. Their feathers are abundant, covering even their legs, and the size is impressive. They are definitely big birds, and I want to try this breed to see how I do in breeding. I am very excited to venture into this new stage and learn how to take care of them, which will be little by little, as when I start with the layers.
But the surprise did not end there. Along with the chicks, they gave me five fertile Brahma eggs to place in the incubator. What a great emotion! If all goes well, I will have seven chicks of this breed in a short time. The possibility of raising them from birth fills me with enthusiasm, and I can't wait to see them grow up, it will be a great new experience.
Cuando finalmente llegamos al lugar y vi la pareja de pollos Brahma, quedé completamente maravillada. Son unas aves majestuosas; el gallo es de un blanco puro y brillante, mientras que la gallina luce una mezcla de blanco y gris. Sus plumas son abundantes, cubren incluso sus patas, y el tamaño es impresionante. Definitivamente son aves grandes, y quiero probar con esta raza para ver qué tal me va en la cría. Me ilusiona mucho incursionar en esta nueva etapa y aprender de su cuidado, que será poco a poco, como cuando comience con las ponedoras .
Pero la sorpresa no terminó ahí. Junto con los pollos, me regalaron cinco huevos fértiles de Brahma para colocar en la incubadora. ¡Qué gran emoción! Si todo marcha bien, tendré siete pollos de esta raza en poco tiempo. La posibilidad de criarlos desde su nacimiento me llena de entusiasmo, y no veo la hora de verlos crecer, será una gran y nueva experiencia.
My current breeding is of hens with layers. Thanks to them, I have not bought eggs for more than two years, which has been a benefit for our diet and economy. In previous publications I mentioned that I used to have problems consuming eggs because they caused me allergies. However, since I have my own production and I know exactly what the hens eat, I consume them without any inconvenience. This has given me even more reason to continue to be enthusiastic about my farming.
Mi cría actual es de gallipavos con ponedoras. Gracias a ellas, hace más de dos años que no compro huevos, lo cual ha sido un beneficio para nuestra alimentación y economía. En publicaciones anteriores mencioné que antes tenía problemas para consumir huevos porque me causaban alergia. Sin embargo, desde que tengo mi propia producción y sé exactamente lo que comen las gallinas, los consumo sin inconvenientes. Eso me ha dado aún más motivos para seguir entusiasmada con mi cría.
At home we are very fond of all birds. Some of them have names and are part of our daily life. The new members have no names yet, but we are already thinking about what to call them. They will be fed the same as the others, with no special requirements, as all my brood eats corn mixed with layer feed, and so far it has worked very well for them. At home we have seven hens and a rooster, and we collect six or seven eggs daily.
En casa estamos muy encariñados con todas las aves. Algunas tienen nombres y forman parte de nuestro día a día. Las nuevas integrantes aún no tienen nombre, pero ya estamos pensando en cómo llamarlas. Se alimentarán igual que las demás, sin requerimientos especiales, pues toda mi cría come maíz mezclado con alimento de ponedora, y hasta ahora les ha funcionado muy bien. En casa tenemos siete gallinas y un gallo, y recolectamos seis o siete huevos diariamente.
We also have quail, although not many. Currently there are three females and two males. They eat only ground corn and, even so, they never stop laying. Every day I collect six eggs, which is a good addition to our kitchen.
También tenemos codornices, aunque no muchas. Actualmente hay tres hembras y dos machos. Ellas comen solo maíz molido y, aun así, nunca dejan de poner. Todos los días recojo seis huevitos, lo que es un buen aporte para nuestra cocina.
It is an immense joy to see how our little cria grows and stays healthy. All of us at home participate in their care. Even though we work and sometimes have different schedules, we always find a way to organize ourselves to take care of them as they deserve.
When we go to collect the eggs, our dogs accompany us and help the hens get into their pen. They have also learned to be part of this routine, always attentive and participative.
Es una alegría inmensa ver cómo nuestra pequeña cria crece y se mantiene saludable. Todos en casa participamos en su cuidado. A pesar de que trabajamos y a veces tenemos horarios diferentes, siempre encontramos la manera de organizarnos para atenderlos como se merecen.
Cuando vamos a recoger los huevos, nuestros perros nos acompañan y ayudan a que las gallinas entren a su corral. Ellos también han aprendido a formar parte de esta rutina, siempre atentos y participativos.
