Today is Dog Day, and maybe I could dedicate this post to my sweet little bun, Snoopy, and remember all the beautiful dogs I have had in my life, I would spend a lot of time talking about them, but instead, I prefer to talk today about their health, and why it is important to deworm them, not only the dogs, but also the kittens.
Deworming is a process that allows our pets to be healthy, and in that way, owners also avoid the risk of contracting some diseases caused by both external and internal parasites. When we talk about parasites, we are not only referring to worms, but to fleas and ticks that stay in our furry ones if we do not comply with their deworming process, and of course, other equally important measures such as the cleanliness of the area where they are, their bath, vaccination, sterilization and good feeding. Believe it or not, all these factors are determinant in the health of our pets.
The deworming process often depends on the living conditions of the animals, since sometimes, due to certain environmental situations, they return in some animals much earlier than in others. This weekend, we completed the process of deworming the whole herd, and I even dewormed Naranjito, a neighbor's kitten, who stays in my garden and does his little things in it. A friend told me about the chain of contagion, and honestly, I was dumbfounded by so many things I didn't know.
If a small animal with parasites, loiters in the environment of those who are already dewormed, as the effect of the dose wears off, they contract them quickly because there is a direct source of contagion. Even when we come in from the street, if we are on foot, we bring parasites and many other bacteria on the soles of our shoes, and we deposit them at home when we come in. That's why he suggested that I take off my shoes before coming in, wear socks and wash the soles afterwards.
We deworm the herd every 3 months as instructed by the vet. A first dose, and at 21 days the second one. But this time, Snoopy and Lupe needed to bring the process forward because they already had parasites. We bought the doses in a veterinary store, they are really not expensive, but considering that I have 5, with a tendency to 6 for the little neighbor, it was more than 20$ to buy the complete doses for now and in 21 days. It is important to comply with the indicated time because first the parasites are eliminated, and with the second dose, the larvae that may remain.
The most common symptoms in them when the parasites are back, is inappetence, decay, they seek to eat bush, and their pupis is ugly, snotty and even with blood; this is delicate because it can trigger something very unpleasant. The best thing to do is to take precautions and comply with the deworming process punctually. If there are vaccination days in your area, take advantage of them, they are almost always free, and you can take some with you so that the budget can breathe a little. Remember, if the pets are infected with parasites, external or internal, the owners can also be infected. It is better to be safe!

Hola a todos los amantes de las mascotas, espero que estén pasando un maravilloso inicio de semana. Hoy se celebra el día del perro, y quizás podría dedicar este post a mi pancito dulce, Snoopy, y recordar a todos los perritos hermosos que he tenido en toda mi vida, la verdad pasaría mucho rato hablando de ellos, pero en su lugar, prefiero hablar hoy de su salud, y de por qué es importante desparasitarlos, no sólo a los perritos, sino también a los gatitos.
La desparasitación es un proceso que permite que nuestras mascotas estén sanas, y de esa manera, los dueños también evitan el riesgo de contraer algunas enfermedades provocadas por los parásitos tanto externos como internos. Cuando hablamos de parásitos, no nos estamos refiriendo únicamente a las lombrices, sino a pulgas y garrapatas que se hospedan en nuestros peludos si no cumplimos con su proceso de desparasitación, y por supuesto, otras medidas igualmente importantes como el aseo del área donde se encuentran, su baño, vacunación, esterilización y buena alimentación. Aunque no lo crean, todos estos factores son determinantes en la salud de nuestras mascotas.
El proceso de desparasitación muchas veces depende de las condiciones de vida de los animales, ya que a veces por ciertas situaciones ambientales, regresan en algunos mucho antes que en otros. Este fin de semana, cumplimos con el proceso de desparasitar a toda la manada, e incluso, desparasité a Naranjito, el gatito de unos vecinos, que permanece en mi jardín y hace sus cositas en él. Un amigo me relató la cadena de contagio, y sinceramente, me quedé boquiabierta de tantas cosas que desconocía.
Si un animalito con parásitos, merodea en el entorno de los que ya están desparasitados, a medida que se va perdiendo el efecto de la dosis, los contraen rápidamente porque hay una fuente de contagio directa. Incluso, cuando llegamos de la calle, si andamos a pie, traemos parásitos y muchas otras bacterias en las suelas de los zapatos, y las depositamos en casa al entrar. Por eso me sugirió quitarme los zapatos antes de entrar, pasar en medias y lavar las suelas después.
Nosotros desparasitamos a la manada cada 3 meses como nos indica el veterinario. Una primera dosis, y a los 21 días la segunda. Pero esta vez, Snoopy y Lupe requirieron adelantar el proceso porque ya tenían parásitos. Compramos las dosis en una tienda veterinaria, realmente no salen costosas, pero considerando que tengo 5, con tendencia a 6 por el vecinito, sobrepasó los 20$ comprar las dosis completas para ahorita y dentro de 21 días. Es importante cumplir con ese tiempo indicado porque primero se eliminan los parásitos, y con la segunda dosis, las larvas que puedan quedar.
Los síntomas más comunes en ellos cuando los parásitos están de vuelta, es inapetencia, decaimiento, buscan comer monte, y su pupis es feito, mocoso y hasta con sangre; eso sí es delicado porque puede desencadenar en algo muy desagradable. Lo mejor es tomar precauciones y cumplir con su proceso de desparasitación puntualmente. Si hay jornadas de vacunación en su zona, aprovéchenlas, casi siempre son gratis, y se pueden llevar algunos para que el presupuesto respire un poco. Recuerden, que si las mascotas están infectadas de parásitos, externos o internos, los dueños también pueden contagiarse. Es mejor prevenir!!
