Who knows. The people who love building the outrage look for any news story and then they start spinning it to make it a hundred times worse. Yeah, absolutely, politicians aren't helping. The GOP's modern thing of "we will vote against anything the Democrats do, regardless of what it is", and the Democrats starting to fall into the same just makes a perfect situation for mud-slinging instead of actually governing.
