Is he the one that died at the beginning of Gladiator? 😃 If that is the case, for as wise as he was, why did he continue to try to expand the empire? That part always bugged me about the movie. He didn't seem the sort to honestly care about conquering Britain, so why do it? They were just minding their own business.

Yeah, that was him. The movie wasn't exactly accurate to him. He wasn't trying to expand the empire, just protect it. The Germanic tribes were constantly invading in the north, so he was just trying to hold them off. The invading Britain that you mention wasn't Marcus Aurelius but was Claudius nearly 100 years before.

Good to know. I don't really know too much about that period of time.
